Johno Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 Just prep and repaint, nothing flash. Just as long as supermarket dents are fixed and its shiny. I am a painter myself but Car painting is totally different. I know that if i do it wont look very shiny and i'm worried about a silicon reaction happening. It happened b4 when i painted the rear plastic  Quote
Johno Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 Started my boot install today! Quote
Johno Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) How do i take off the rear bumper? Do i undo the bolts inside the boot that are covered up by plastic covers? EDIT: It is so i can start the prep on the car painting. I know what colour i'm going to paint it now. :) Ivory white!, sorta a light cream colour. Something unique that doesn't look really out there like flouro green. White seca's are too common. Black will show up dents and it will get dirty very easily and scratches will show too. Red is also common but also oxidise's in the sun. I think ivory will go well with black door trims, window tint and black rear plastics. Colour coded mirrors, bumpers and door handles. Guess I'll see when i do it. Question still remains.. How do i remove my rear bumper? Cheers johno :D Edited September 12, 2008 by Johno Quote
watty Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 johno just undo the bolts under those rubbers wayne Quote
Johno Posted September 13, 2008 Author Report Posted September 13, 2008 (edited) Thanks watty, I worked it out last night. Just started undoing bolts so see what happens and it came off like magic. The reason i was asking was because it just looked too simple. Fords and holdens are such a prick to remove bumpers. I'm only just starting to work out how easy Rolla's are to work on, lol. Here's some progress pics.. Edited September 13, 2008 by Johno Quote

Johno Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Got some good news about the paint job. Went to a Auto Paint shop in bayswater to get prices on primer and topcoat. I was thinking which paint to go for.. Acrylic lacquer or 2 PAC :y: The story goes... The guy that owns the shop has a spray booth out the back and a oven. He said if i do all the prep work and masking up he would spray my car with 2 pac and oven baked for 1400 bucks. Plus 2 PAC paint which is about $100 per litre, so all up about $2200 total. Not bad for oven baked 2 PAC full internal-external respray.. :y: The colour i'm going for (Not sure what it is called), I forgot.. lol! It is a BMW colour. Ivory sorta Quote
dfunkt Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 don't stress bowler, if she's an '86 model, she's in her early 20's already....so all legal :y: haha and johno, that price sounds very good indeed. nice score. Quote
Johno Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 I was trying to take off my rear boot door. Got all the looms sorted, washers and camera wires. The only thing that is stopping my from taking it off the the gas struts to hold the door up. How do I take them off? I tried to pop it off the ball joint with some force but no good. I don't want to force it too much and break it. Has anyone removed these before? Quote
silverra23 Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Should be a little metal circlip thing that needs to be slid back along the shaft of the strut away from the ball joint - use a small flat head screw driver. Then the strut will come off easy as pie. Quote
RollaBus_4agze Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Nice work on the paint dude :) Bet you are stoked ;) Quote
