Johno Posted January 22, 2009 Author Report Posted January 22, 2009 Test fitted the new panel, just mucken around really. can't belive the gap. Just show's how light the car is i guess. :P Thanks Moe, I thought water might have been getting in the petrol cap so i gapped it up with bog, lol. The other thought is the bumper sits fairly close to the panel, water and dirt gets kicked up from the rear tires and builds up and rusted it out. Quote

Looking good, You will be ready to paint soon, My seca had rust starting under the petrol filler caused by the joint there, have you decided what color you will paint the car yet? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Guide coat is for sanding primer. Comes in spray on, or powder form, I think the powder is easier to use. Wipe some over the a clean primed panel and it'll turn the whole think blackish. When you start to wet sand it (about 400 grit) the guide coat will be left in the orange peel dimples. Continue to sand until the dimples dissapear and you then have a perfectly flat panel. Obviously you need to have the primer thick enough on the panel that you don't rub straight through it. I also hope you did something about that rust befor just slapping bog over it? It'll just continue to rust and crack the bog and your new paint!!!! :) Quote

Can i by that powder foam from a Auto paint store? Yeah i did treat the rust before the bog. I used K&H Rust converter, followed the directions by the letter. Looks weird because all the rust and metal went jet back. I just hope it will work. Should be ok. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) Yeah mate. Reckon you could even buy it from Autobarn etc as they stock bog and other body work stuff. :) This is the stuff you want.... http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=...v%3D2%26hl%3Den Edited January 23, 2009 by Taz_Rx Quote

Yeah still a little bit of work to do. Still have to strip, sand, fill and prime 4 doors and my new boot also. The colour is a very light mushroom/sandstone/beige metallic colour. Its usually seen on Nissan Xtrails or Mazda 626's. Quote

Taz_Rx Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Used to do a bit of work at a place call "The Car Artist" who made/supplied body kits etc. Spend many a day wet rubbing primer with guide coat until my finger tips bled - Seriously I had no finger prints for like a month!!!! :) Quote
Johno Posted January 23, 2009 Author Report Posted January 23, 2009 I know what you mean, i'm a house painter and that happend to me all the time when I was younger. Quote
KE30_KE35_KE55 Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 That dry guide goat looks amazing will have to try :) Also don't forget to seal the back of the panel that was repaired so water doesn't start rusting things again, I use a zinc primer then some bitumen paint similar to that used on the under carrage. Johno Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 I got back yesterday from the annual Rollaclub Great Ocean Road Run. It was wicked 3 days away with some Rollaclub members but I had to drive my daily which is a stock EL wagon. I went out today and bought a brand new Sony Ericsson C905 phone. I swore to myself that i wouldn't buy another Plan phone but couldn't resist the features. My other phone (SE K800i) was getting really old and i could barley get reception after i threw it into a wall. It did take good pics I think (3.2Meg pixel) Every pic i have taken of the corolla was all off the old phone. Now i got a new one with 8.1Meg pixel camera so all of you and me can enjoy better quality pics from here on in. Hope it's better otherwise its one expensive piece of plastic to make phone calls on. Johno Posted January 29, 2009 Author Report Posted January 29, 2009 Ok, well this is not really an update on my 82 but thought I would just say that there is another rolla on the block. I bought it today for my brother. Look out for it on rides thread soon. Quote
