Croc Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Have you checked out FAQ. Doesn't sound to hard. http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Oil_Pump Quote
SLO-030 Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 ok, when you pull the spring out of the oil pump there should be a little cup where the spring locates. find something like a washer that sits in the spring cup, about 3mm as suggested by the faq. the idea of this it closing the distance between each end of the spring, when you do this it puts the spring under more compression and raising the pressure applied to the oil pump bypass. l the more force keeping the bypasss shut mean more oil pressure to open it and BAM, theres your higher oil pressure. u may or may not kno this but i put the info up for the others that may not kno. Smithius Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Sorry to bring up an old post but I'm doing this now and i wondered if it matters what end you put the shim on the spring. If you put it the end of the spring where the split pin is nothing will retain the spring but the walls of the pump body. If you put it the other end the spring will still be retained by 15mm or so in the relife valve plunger? I have included a crappy drawing to illistrate what i mean Quote
philbey Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Functionally, no difference between the two, it just changes the preload on the spring. BUT - Put it on the end with the spring clip, so the spacer itself is stationary. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Hi, Old ish thread not but had to post this bit of info. Started my rebuilt 5K other day with my oil pressure gauge connected for the first time. I runa 2mm shim and hold 80PSI at idle with cold oil. I run a 10W-40W oil in it. After it warmed it dropped to about 70PSI that was when I shut it off. I feel this would be enough. 3mm might be to high but if your keen go 2.5mm should be a nice shim size also. Cheers Cameron Quote
philbey Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Cam, what was the original oil pressure, that way we can work out the spring rate and then have a nice little chart in the wiki so people can set it for their own desired pressure! TP. Quote
