thought NA and ATMO same thing? or is there actually a difference?

I seen a motor without a Supercharger or turbo is NA

And one with turbo or supercharger a Charged, boosted, forced induction motor or whatever you call it.

And yeah, Ping, the sanding aint fun. i didnt have to do mine much, just a quick rub around the lips with some wet sandpaper (1200 grit) to get the crap off, then i spent most of the time polishing with autosol.

I usally keep polishing intill the rag don't go black from crap built up on rim..

Cheers for the comments guys

And Brad, I'm kinda learning this stuff as i go but i know i'm getting a microtech LTX-8 with loom, coil packs and a hand controller so i'm not sure what needs to get modded but i am tossing up whether or not just to turbo the motor as soon as i put it in rather than wait and get the tune done twice

Do you know that is not the 100kw motor?

See it has the TVIS badge on it? It should be the latest version of the 88kw ones. Where did it come from?

Are you sure its the 7 ribbed block and you may have to check if it has oil squirters as i think it doesnt.(doesnt matter too much either way)

If it has oil squirters and the bigport head you got what alot of guys try to achieve by mixing and matching parts.

BTW if its does have the bigport head (which it should with the tvis badge on the manifold) you can use a 4age JDM RWD inlet manifold.

Hey Adam

I picked the motor up on ebay as a low km import

Yeah i reasearched it and realised it was the 2nd gen of 4age's which has the lower 88kw rating so it has the 7 rib block without the oil squirters and i also found that one of the reasons for the lower power rating is cause this engine has the AFM not map sensored but that will change with the microtech

And the other factor is the compression ratio which in the 100kw motor has 10:1 and the 88kw has 9.4:1 so the plus is that i should be able to run slightly more boost running on the factory bottom end (maybe 8-10 psi)

And thanks for the tip on that manifold, I don't suppose you know the best place to source one?

I know it was a little while ago,

Hey, I'd call around to some tuners in you're area, you'll find that they all hate Microtech + atmo 4AGE's, many won't even try and tune them. They work ok under boost, but but NA it'll take them half a day to tune at $100 an hour, and still be an average tune that's horrible on the fuel, and terrible off throttle. They're an annoying company too, this whole pay them $250 to make the ecu work on a different engine is the biggest scam ever, every other ecu around, will let you change settings to allow you to re-use the ecu on another vehicle

I'm sorry but what a load of crap, it took my tuner 1 and a half hours to tune my 20V from a base map (harder to tune than a 16V) its NA and it runs bloody well, and it good on fuel under normal road driving, It starts every time and idles, even at -2 deg in the mornings without even touching the accelerator and i don't even have a cold idle up or idle control valve.

I know what I'm talking about as i am a Microtech and Adaptronic dealer. Most of the tuners i deal with love Microtech as they are easy to tune. I do agree with that statment about changing the ignition.

:fuzz: If you're a dealer for them of course you will say they're good, it's not in your best interest. What I said is not a load of crap, it's called an opinion, which is justified from my experience of seeing some friends microtech's constantly needing retuning and getting rubbish economy compared to other people with similar setups. When I built my 20V I was offered a microtech for a very low price, which I considered briefly. I called around 7 of the most reputable tuners in Brisbane asking for advice about whether the microtech would suit my needs. Not one of them recommended the unit for a 20V 4AGE, they all said that they won't give a very street friendly tune and if you add cam's they become even more finicky. They all said get a Motec, Autronic or Haltech.

I've read in your posts before about numerous problems tuning your car, a 3.5 hr tuning session to only have your car run worse, then you spending a day tuning to get it driveable. What sort of fuel economy are you getting? I'm sure in the past you've said your 3.8L commo powered corolla was better on the fuel than the 20V, though that must have changed.

At the end of the day its not about whether any ecu is good or bad, it's just too subjective. It comes back to having a local tuner that you trust with your engine and you giving them the tools that they prefer so they can do the best they can for you, and not have you needing an engine rebuild.

Is that a big enough load of crap enough for you Nickz?
