KE ping it real Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 Looking very good Andrew, love how its coming along :( Looking at all this DIY makes me want to get a start on my car but doing the whole travel thing is really top priority. Probably missed it but what kind of power are you aiming for? Hey George How the F%^k are you? havent spoken to you for a while Yeah i'm getting there mate. I'll be happy once the bay is done so i can start getting the engine in & sorted I'd be happy with maybe 120-130kw at the wheels based on what i've seen & heard that should be quite acheivable on 8-10psi :P Quote
trav_555 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 that will be sic as, it'll kill your old engine haha - 30kws atw FTW Quote
furryfrog Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Haha yeh I've been missing in action for a bit, got knocked off my bike on the way to my girls house after work 3 weeks ago, wasn't my fault luckily although my bike is a write off and and car broke my right ankle as it T-boned me. I'm out for another 5 weeks so its pretty boring, lucky for workers comp :( Ive been collecting some parts for the corolla, give the little sr a bit of a power boost and then get it tuned. 130kw should be enough given what you are used to, its enough to get you in trouble :P I love looking over peoples projects always gives you that little bit of inspiration to do something. trav_555 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Hey Mate, i also found out yesterday that you also blew the head gasket in your 4k, lucky i ripped it apart to get higher compression or a few more weeks of driving and she would have been in the same condition as my engine i just ripped out yesterday :P so theres something to put on your to-do list, make sure ya get all brand new gaskets for your 4age haha, so you don't get in a spot of bother in a few weeks after putting it in, and remember always continusely check your temp gauge or your f@$ked :( Travis Quote
KE ping it real Posted October 16, 2008 Author Report Posted October 16, 2008 Hey Mate, i also found out yesterday that you also blew the head gasket in your 4k, lucky i ripped it apart to get higher compression or a few more weeks of driving and she would have been in the same condition as my engine i just ripped out yesterday :P so theres something to put on your to-do list, make sure ya get all brand new gaskets for your 4age haha, so you don't get in a spot of bother in a few weeks after putting it in, and remember always continusely check your temp gauge or your f@$ked  Travis Really!!!!???? Shit mate i had no idea, It was running fine but i guess my temp gauge must have been f@$ked Well i'm glad you were pulling it apart or i would have felt like a right C^%T Luckily i do have a speco temp gauge to go in with the new engine (Along with about 8 other speco gauges) Sorry about that and Thanks for the tip as well I'll hook you up with a carton the next time i see you to make up for it :( Quote
trav_555 Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 yea, it dosent tell you on your temp gauge until its too late aye, take radiator cap off and if theres air bubbles in it rip that head off and grab a new gasket. yea it was right lucky i pulled it apart aye, its ok its not your fault you didnt realise, lucky it hasnt done any unrepairable damage. but yep definately one to watch out for. thatd be sic man we'll have to go to a cruise down to the pub next time I'm down in sydney. ive got my engine bay sparkly clean today and gave her a lap of paint with some more $3 bunnings paint comes up nice, my mates like holy shit man how are you so neat with a spray can, you didnt even use masking tape, and I'm like, i sprayed the whole damn car with 5 3 buck cans twice, i know how to spray paint :P but yea its all good man just thought id let ya know so you know what to look for with your new engine or you could be in a spot of bother on the side of the freeway Travis Quote
KE ping it real Posted October 21, 2008 Author Report Posted October 21, 2008 Well i have a small update so far Basically degreased the engine bay now and given everywhere a light sand in preparation for filler & primer I still have a bit more sanding to do in a couple spots that require more attention but other than that shouldn'd be too long before paint and then i can start the engine work  Quote
trav_555 Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 sweet as man will be great, I'm really loving satin black cars now that you mentioned it haha was there much rust in the car really? like when you bought it? o and my mechanic thought of a name for my black and red ke70... Hey Luc Hasn't quite been painted yet as we just moved but i will definatley be dropping the steering box, was going to try to work around the x member but i'll see what happens, i'm pretty keen to get moving on the whole thing and BTW i was also hoping to get another set of mounts off you that are drilled & set up for the 20 valve As i may have another car in the works soon so yeah but i'll pm you And Trav, thats f@$ked up about the sender. KE ping it real Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Ok so its been a little while since an update, i just moved house and have been quite sick as well so anyway i've started to buy a couple of things and i've also decided to go a slightly different route with the KE35 I'm sure this is going to upset a few people (Particularly Jono :P ) but i am now going to be installing a 20 valve instead of the turbo 16v There are a few reasons for this, i had planned to put the 20v into another ke30 but i am not getting that car now so i still have the engine. I also thought about it and i do like to be at least a little bit different and although people have put 20v in before it is a much less common conversion. And finally i would like to do a quality build and i found myself buying cheap turbo parts to do the conversion instead of quality so i would rather have a more reliable and Quality 20v conversion than a band aided together 16v turbo job I do realise that i wont have the same amount of power but eventually down the track i may turbo the 20v All that being said i have a couple of photos, one of the 20v, one of my skylie LSD i aquired and have to get ready to go in and lastly how my rolla is sitting at the moment. Cardboard box powered rolla HA HA Quote
