KE ping it real Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Well i've gone and done it now - i bought a 4age bigport  After the blue mountains cruise and talking to a couple of other members, I couldn't resist My plan is to collect parts for a while (so far i have the 4age and the RWD extractors) and then take it off the road in maybe 6 moths to do the conversion and do some other things to the car aswell I'll run with the engine as standard till i get bored and then i'll turbo it :D I'll post up a couple of pics when i pick it up :lovin: Edited July 5, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
KE ping it real Posted July 4, 2008 Author Report Posted July 4, 2008 Congrats on the new engine mate! Cheers Johno It's going to be very hard to have the motor sitting there for a while and not just pump a shitload of money into it to get it running sooner As my wife says, I have to learn to be patient ;) Quote
KE ping it real Posted July 6, 2008 Author Report Posted July 6, 2008 Say hello to my little friend I picked it up yesterday and stripped the gearbox, a/c and starter off to be able to lift it off my ute Man those 4age's weigh more than a 3k - one heavy mother f#%ker, me and the old man lifted it down to its current resting place It needs a good clean up and the usual FWD to RWD mods but she cranks over nice & smooth and i realised that i have the 7 rib block so i'm pretty happy about that one Quote
JiP Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 OMG!! Who would have thought, heavier than a 3K!! lOl Quote
KE ping it real Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 OMG!! Who would have thought, heavier than a 3K!! lOl Yeah i kinda figured it would be heavier but last time me and another bloke lifted a 3k & gearbox in one and this time i had to strip all the stuff off it and it was still heavier I guess i was just surprised by how much difference there was - I wasn't going for the captain obvious award :D Quote

beerhead Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Hey, I'd call around to some tuners in you're area, you'll find that they all hate Microtech + atmo 4AGE's, many won't even try and tune them. They work ok under boost, but but NA it'll take them half a day to tune at $100 an hour, and still be an average tune that's horrible on the fuel, and terrible off throttle. They're an annoying company too, this whole pay them $250 to make the ecu work on a different engine is the biggest scam ever, every other ecu around, will let you change settings to allow you to re-use the ecu on another vehicle. Yeah Thanks MickI'm super excited about it, I've now got a microtach on the way as well as a T50 box so i don't need too many more peices before i can think about starting  Quote

G'day Brad I picked up the computer 2nd hand from Queen20v, Which was running on a 20v (funnily enough) and before purchase i rang microtech and they reckon it should go straight on without changing the settings BUT, he did say that if it did need to get reset then it would cost $450 which i thought was a rip off, however i did get it with the hand held as well so i can only hope that it helps them speed up the tune process I do have a guy that tuned my twin carbs who apparently is a bit of a fuel guru all round so hopefully he can sort me out Although i havent told him my 4age plans yet  I can only hope it all works out for the best  What do you mean by atmo 4age's? Falken_KE30 Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 atmo, NA. non charged same thing i guess.. Use autosol on the rims, you might need to do a light wetsand, get the clearcoat off the rims !! Quote

Oh OK sweet as now i know what he is talking about And yeah i figured i would have to break out the wet n dry for many hours of hand cramping fun (and not the good kind LOL) Quote
beerhead Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Was the 20V single coil in FWD or wasted spark? Either way, you'll need to get a 100kw dizzy or mod your bigport one, from being an early batch fire(4 spark event prongs) to sequential (1 home prong) on the upper magnetic wheel in the dizzy. I've modified one successfully in the past using a microtech. NA = Naturally Aspirated - Atmo = Atmospherically charged Quote
