Small Rear Drivers

hey

iam looking to replace my barge (xf falcon) with something smaller but must be rear drive efi and preferable hatchback style or cable of carrying a mechanics tool chest due to just getting apprenticeship as caterpiller in melb.

from what ive been able to find ae86 or ra60 65 sa63 are the only ones that fit the bill but have noticed that there were 4ke motor which cars did these come out in?

i have about 5 grand to play with so any suggestions

nah iam after rear drive as there a bit easyer to repair and cheaper to do as well

what are 4ac ae86 like on fuel about the same as the 4age or a efi celica?

plus later on a ae86 or something could be a good invest ment or ill atleast get my money back for later on

celica look allright just need the later front one with the lights hidden (proper flip up lights not flip out)

what do mk2 supra go for and what motor's are in them 1g?

Yeah i was also thinking ae71 but iam not sure on how it whould go carting around a the top of a tool chest but they seem to be a little more rust prone (very important as ill be going home on weekends which is just about on the beach).

 

Roughly how long does it take to convert it over a day a weekend or a week to 4age all the bits i need ill be able to find in other posts etc just how long roughly.

 

as for sprited driving it wont see to much apart from my fav road on the way home and the odd funday etc at winton till the corty is finished which is my toy as for having skill i don't know but i got an idea of what iam doing due to racing speedway for 5/6 years.

 

ps i kow where a sprit ke71 is that wil convuse ya lol

you can get s13 silvias for as low as $1500 with no rego, though you would look like an idiot p-plater drift wannabe :lol: how much do mx-5s go for these days? how about a series 1 rx7, they're heaps of fun. you could probably pick up a datsun 1200 for 5 grand in alright condition, maybe even an r31 skyline, cheaper than that would be 180b, 200b, stanza. you can get ma10 supras for a bit more than you want to spend, though they're not exactly "small". any rwd corolla would be good obviously, though if you're keeping the original type motor then i think the lightness of the ke20/25 makes it the best choice. old celica, old corona. sigmas have alot of torque and you can do them up with turbo kits and magna motor parts (2.6 astron twincam efi turbo is popular yo)

Mx5's go for around 7 up s 13 siliva whould be all right but i want something half reasonble and if i went them id want turbo and manual i assume non turbo and auto.

Unfortently rotorie's use to much fuel as id love one of them but id want a s4 manly beacuae i hate steering box's (i like to know what the front wheels are doing.

R31 skylines are all right but use a bit to much fuel same with vl crapadore or earlyer ones.

180b 200b and stanza hard to get with no rust well from everywhere i looked anyway.

Dnd sigma's with the 2.6 use to much fuel in crab form and want something that i can use straght away.

which leave me with corona last of the celica's and corolla.

and in which the only other's left are eskcorts cortina's torana's early mazda 323 etc.

cotina use to much fuel in both 4 and 6cly same with torana eskcorts not bad but worse then corolla and leaf spring which ant to bad but whould rather stay away from.

mazda 323 i don't know much about apart from there rear drive any info? and cappla's etc are starting to very dear for a good one due to rotorie conversions etc

and yes i do know that iam a fusy basterd but hey i know what i like and don't like in a car.

so i think iam gunna go a ae71 unless an 86 pop's up and is in better condition etc but doubt it plus there a lot cheaper oh ive been told 86 stuff bolts in diff's susp etc that true.

sweet that give me money to put toward the corty or a 4age front cut properly both lol found one but not sure on ae or ke so ill have to find out and get the falcon sold

if you want to go fast, you have to use fuel hey. you won't get a fuel injected rwd corolla in australia unless it's already been modified, and in which case it would be out of your budget. what do you actually want to use the car for? there's nothing wrong with leaf springs and steering boxes providing they're in good working order and setup correctly. you're driving an xf at the moment so it's not like you can really downgrade hey :lol:

when you go fast in fwd and turn the wheel, the car doesn't turn. they don't drift. they're harder and way more expensive to work on and get decent power out of and do engine conversions to. most of them look and sound gay and are girls cars

hey i can downgrade from an xf you know i beleave there called gemini's id rather a model t for everyday driving then a gemini.

But hey u can't destroy a xf i know ive tried 3 times and i only have the slightest bit of paint missing on the bumber.

(twice on embakements and once with anther car which backed into me while i was getting fuel at servo did like 500 buck's damage to the vl and scratched my bumber lol)

leafspring all right but why when there are beter options for the same price and i have an allmighty hate of steering box's after trying to get the xf one have a fague feel to it (poly bushes etc all new joints checked like 10 boxes at wreakers go the best one adjusted it up etc and still dident really know what they were doing) plus rack much simpler kiss theroy.

Main duties are daily driver but some sprited driving but needs to be cheap to run due to crappy first year app wages once i get past that iam gunna be looking for more potential ether from it or anther car.

As for front drive harder and dearer to work on plus i have a personal preferance towards rear drive anyway
