seems my problem was a little more serious than I thought haha

there's only shredded bits of perished rubber left where a timing belt once sat

anyone know if the 4A-C is an interferance motor or not?? just so I know whether to go buy a new timing belt or start shopping for a new motor

If you are in brisbane i have a complete 4ac motor in running condition minus the starter motor. Its been religiosly looked after by previous owner. Comes with a stack of new parts. It starts first time everytime. Its currently @ $100. Price is NEG tho if you need it desperatly... Currently in brisbane.

Oh and to your question, normally when timing belts / chains break /go, pistons and valves start to meet, and have very, very deformed families.

there are interferance and non interferance motors

non interferance motors have enough piston and valve clearance so that in the case of a snapped timing belt there is no piston valve contact and you can get away with just replacing the belt

not sure which one a 4A-C is though

I might be interested in that 4A-C of yours, infact chances are I will take it

I'll get back to you tomorrow after I pull the head off mine and see how damaged it is

i'm pretty sure that the early 4 cylinder toyota motors were non-interfearance.

so you may be able to get away with just replacing the belt

Edit: i had a look around on google for a bit and it looks like i'm right.....

the 4AC is a NON-Interference motor...

The 4ac motor has a brand new altanator, new new water pump, serviced every 5000 K's, new air cleaner filter, and some other lil things. You can also have the flywheel for nothing, as its not use to me lol !

Jason or Teddy

can I get a number or something to call one of you guys and arrange to get that motor?

Xany and Irokin, how do you figure that? if you mean by just turning it over by hand and seeing how easy it spins (ie. feeling for contact) it doesn't always work like that. On more than one occasion I've seen a timing belt go and we turned the bottom end over by hand and couldn't hear or feel contact but when we pulled the head off the valves were completely mashed beyond recognision
