white ke20s with chasers look mad. i'd leave painting it until you have it running and engineered at least.

have you got yourself a budget for the conversion?

getting the motor in is the easy bit.

other stuff to remember:

fuel pump x 2

surge tank

battery relocation

custom tailshaft

diff

stock or aftermarket ECU (recommend going aftermarket which will give you easier option for turbocharging once you get bored of the power, which will happen soon enough)

yea i will have to do fuel system and battery is going to the boot.. i was planning on using stock tail shaft and lock the diff for now.. just have to take it easy i spose

Depending on what the condition of the body and paint is, i would leave it white. Judging on what i can see in the photo's it looks like a pretty clean ke20. Stripping it down to a shell and respaying is a lot of work and takes a long time. Also depends if your planning a close door respray or full strip down...i reckon go with the original look...

eeerrr 4age in a ke20 would make good power to weight... take some time to get board of the power me thinks. better getting good susy brakes and diff.

you need a custom tailshaft as the box output is different aswell as length.

my mate has a ke20 that had a 4ag, brought it as a roller almost (minus front brakes). it has front coilies, stiff leafs, efi pumps and cage. planning on using it as a drifter, will have plenty of power comparerd to heavier sprinters/ae71's

If you get bored of the power of 4AGE in a little car like a KE20 I'd recommend to stop trying to drag turbo skylines

Go and find a nice windy bit of road, with a 4K I've out cornered cars with 8 times the power, and scared the crap out of myself many times too 8/

tas_ae71 is on the money, put your money in the handling side of things before worrying about fancy paint or an aftermarket ecu, they just aren't as adaptive as a stock ecu for daily use come hail or shine, unless you want to buy a Motec or an Autronic.

will the stock tailshaft work with the t50? i'm pretty sure the t50 is longer than a k50.

I'm just of the opinion if you are planning future upgrades (even some really large cams or quads) then simply use the aftermarket ECU from the beginning. why do something twice?

However, if its going to be standard forever then the stock ECU would be better.

My smallport 4age in my ke20 is quick (i had mine on the road, engineered for 10 months) but its not stupid quick. Now the turbo conversion is almost finished, it has saved me money having the haltech already there.

paint it

do it before its rego'd but after everything is sorted.

nothing worse than driving around, and people saying, nice car, but would better with some fresh paint.

full colour changes are a PITA, so be prepared to pay alot for it, or spend stupid amounts of time doing it.

I'm doing mine now

thanks guys.. the body work is pretty straight.. it will still need a fresh coat of white but still that is a lot easier that stripping the whole car to paint blue..i willl be using the car as a daily driver for now.. thanks guys

Like old mate up above said, do the conversion, paint the bay before you do with the gaurds removed and do a decent job.

Then when its running, drive it to the paint shop and get the rest done. That way you wont scratch and dent your nice new paint while you are fabricating and fitting the non standard motor.

I think white would be lovely. A crisp clean white is lovely, especially if that is the original color. It doesn't make sense to change it IMO.
