NST Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Hi guys, I'm having some trouble with getting some pushrods for a 5k. We bent two last season and have been chasing some replacements, unfortunatly with poor results. The local toyota parts department got us in what they called a 5k pushrod but it ended up being way too long compared to what we took out  . The ones we had in the engine measured 150.5mm from the tip to tip and 8mm in diameter and looked identical in design to the "new but too long" ones toyota gave me, so the ones from the engine where definatly a toyota looking item. I tracked down some crow cams ones which are bloody strong but may be causing some valve train problems :hmm: . I'd like to get a set of toyota pushrods back in there if possible, so i guess i'm chasing any information about what length the toyota 5k pushrods are actually supposed to be? or if there are a few different types? We are almost certain they are supposed to be just the run of the mill 5k pushies . Any toyota guru help will be great. Dave Quote
Xany Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Original 5K pushrods for Hydro lifters are 157mm long. Just measured one then as i happened to have one sitting on my desk....lol Quote
philbey Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Lads while we're on the topic, I notice one of my spring clips that holds the lifter plunger in place is missing. Any ideas where i'd score a new one? Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Lifter clip is a standard circlip try the local nuts and bolts shop they will have on e on the shelf BUT if they don't go to a wrecker get a holden hydro lifter ones in my dads car look 100% same as 5K stock ones so those circlips might fit. Now for push rods Xany is right on the hydro ones. Also 5K got different push rods yes. Some were flat top others dished piston this did make a difference and also solid or hydro lifter. So can you tell us what lifters you run, type of rocker gear you run, length of non broken push rods, piston type flat or dished etc? This will help HEAPS here. Cheers Cameron Quote

Cheers Cameron Yep, we have hydro holden 302 v8 lifters in it and we assume it is the standard 5k rocker assembly although the engine has a 3k head on it. The engine is pretty worked, i can't remember all the details but they are flat top pistons with a little over 11:1 compression. The standard lenght of the pushrods that were in it were 150.5 - 150.6mm and definetly looked just like a toyota item. the new one that toyota gave us measures 157mm so Xany is spot on with what toyota reckon is a 5k pushrod. So what the hell are the 150.5mm pushrods in the engine? they are supposed to just be 5k ones! :sob: Thanks for your help guys. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 EASY.. 5K block 3K head means you prob to something like Datto A12 push rods in it :sob: My set were on my desk as of 3 days ago..LOL Now in boot of car so can't measure length BUT datto rod is the know one to use when running solid chev lifters with 3K head. But if the chev lifters are hydro means you got a push rod the length of a datto A12 rod but it will be ball to ball not ball to cup like a A12 rod is. So you will have to look in part books for one length of datto rod that is ball to ball but if there solids id put my money on being A12 items. Got a pic of broken ones? As I felt datto rods were chunky in size that explains your 8mm measurement of them..lol Cameron Quote

Yes i have heard that about the A12 rods, but the eninge is running holden bent 8 hydro lifters and ball to ball rods 150.5mm long so yeah... As it turns out though the "new but too long toyota 5k rods" are exactly 8mm in diameter, which is exactly the same as what we have bent soo, i still think it is a toyota pushrod that we are trying to get but of different length to what the local parts department call a 5k rod. I'll get some pics up tonight. Thanks guys :sob: Dave Quote
untubbed_20 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Make some, i had problems with bending them, got 308 manley pushrods and cut them to length. Then go get some slant six pushrods from a valiant, they have removable ends/cups, heat them up and pop them of and fit them to the new pushrods, what was the problem with the crow ones? Quote
