Mybowlcut Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) I'm a bit worried about my KE70. I was driving it today on more or less no oil (I didn't know until I got home)... each time I'd brake or go slow in a high gear it would begin to stall. I filled it up with oil as soon as I got home but it still wants to stall... can anyone think of a reason for any of this? Also the brake lights have stopped working... I've recently put on Superlites that are bigger than the stock wheel so could this have something to do with the brakes? Should I get larger brakes to handle the size increase? Edit: fixed the brake lights they were both blown for some reason. Cheers. Edited March 16, 2008 by Mybowlcut Quote

For the brakes lights check the bulbs are ok, Bad earths around the the back of the lights, Then the fuses. Edited March 12, 2008 by AE70 Quote
WinKE55 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Maybe Carby issues? Guessing :jamie: I know cold starts have an effect on my step mums 4A engine. Quote

How do I check the fuses? :jamie: Quote

I'm taking it to a mechanic ASAP so I will eventually get it checked out... but it seemed to be doing this regardless of whether the engine was warm or not. Quote
love ke70 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 how slow in what speed? sounds like your getting the revs too low and its trying to stall coz your stalling it... again, buy a workshop manual and things will become a little clearer. also, spend some time on here reading, some time out there tinkering, and a little less time asking to be spoon fed (no, I'm not having a go, just tryna help you fend for yourself) yes we all have been where you are now, knowing absolutely f@$k all, but to check the light bulbs, and check the fuses, thats something you can check for yourself without anyones help, and then you should feel very proud for working it out for yourself :jamie: and for the record, your brake light has nothing to do with your wheels, the brake light it turned on when you push the pedal, as there is a little switch under the arm of the brake pedal which gets pushed in as soon as u move it. soo, it can either be the switch, the fuse, both bulbs blown or a bad earth. fuse and earth is where i would start, be unusual for both bulbs to go, and if all seems right, try checking the switch. report back with your findings :hmm: Quote

If I drop it to say 55-60km/h in 4th (which is tolerable for a 4speed) it starts going all gay. It's not idling smoothly either. Define workshop manual? Can my corolla manual do the same job? I just want to get this sorted out as quickly as possible so if I come off a bit bratty then that's why. I crap myself when something goes wrong with my car... love ke70 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 nope, like gregorys workshop manuals, tells you how to do things, and how to diagnose problems etc, can get the from autobarn or supercheap etc may as well start with the basics on this, change spark plugs, leads, points, dizzy cap, rotor button. its either electrical or fueling, the electricals is the easy side, fuel is the fiddly side, and u ahve to be relying on good electricals to get the fueling right, it can just be leads or spark plugs breaking down, or points pitted to the shit house. Mybowlcut Posted March 12, 2008 Author Report Posted March 12, 2008 Either that or I go straight to a mechanic... I've had the worst three days mainly due to uni... so not really in the mood to learn at the moment. :jamie: I'll consider that though, thanks. Quote
reg_ke35 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 I think its the ballast resistor on its way out, they tend to do this, or check your points/rotor button. Just a suggestion, Reg Quote
greenmac80 Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 This same sorta thing happened to me... i found that it was one of the hoses had come off of the carby.. check all the lines going to the carby! there are one or two that are really important.. Quote
coln72 Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 felix beat me to it. Look for a wire unplugged from the carby. Quote

Just a suggestion, Reg I don't have a clue what those are hey haha. Check the fuel cutoff solenoid.Searched that on wikipedia and couldn't find anything so also unsure of what it is haha. They seem to all be going in... One thing that I've noticed recently is that the exhaust smells like oil!? Also, the radiator over-flow tank is empty... shouldn't it have some fluid in it? Quote
