greenmac80 Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I was talking to a mate of mine and he likes geminis. Geminis i believe did come out as a 2ltr at some stage. now the gemi diffs have normal springs and also a locker bar. now with this it would make it relatively easy to put coilovers in and to get rid of leaf springs now they are wider i believe but that would widen the track nicely. the only thing would be to have an adaptor plate for the tailshaft. Now please tell me yr thoughts and also if anyone has done this or also thought of it! another thought would be say a 1.6ltr escort diff. quick upgrade for a worked 5k or something? Quote
philbey Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 quick upgrade for a worked 5k or something? I doubt it. Likely a lot harder than it sounds. Will need to fab all new mounts, new tailshaft length etc. You'll also have to fiddle with the brakes and you'll have different stud patterns so have fun with wheels mismatching. Plus, geminis are the biggest pieces of shit out, and the diffs are probably worse than any corolla diff hahah! Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 To put it into perspective, Ive got a borg warner diff in my ae71 putting down the horses from my 90kw atw 4age. Its still holding up great, despite being thrashed and leaking a bit of oil. With a 5k, you can't really build a drift monster so you wont have many problems, in my opinion. Are you talking about a ke70? Quote
driftn70 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 gemini diffs can be surprisingly strong actually. there are a number of cars that run 10sec 1/4s witha standard diff. a mate of mine had a turbo 5l v8 in his TE that put out 300kw with a stock diff. the thing just wouldnt break. for a corolla though, it would be easier to just put in a T series diff or cut down a hilux diff etc Quote
coln72 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Stick with the stocker until it breaks. A worked 5k shouldn't stress it to much. Quote
Clapped out Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 another thought would be say a 1.6ltr escort diff. Have you ever seen a 1.6 borg warner escort diff? Have a look under your rolla, there is one sitting in it. cheers phatke30! Quote
greenmac80 Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 was just throwinout there is all. not specifically for a 5k or anythin. just thought that maybe the right bracket made to suit the tailshaft that it would be relatively easy! but no if i'm wrong then i'm wrong i don know a great deal about diffs. only thta when my sc 7k conversion come along in december... hopefully that a diff is going to be needed at some stage Quote
Croc Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 I wouldn't say Gemini diffs are crap, Mates Gemini with standard diff has recently done a number of passes in the high nines with a best of 9.542 @ 138mph. Not a bad time for a Isuzu engine either. Quote
