toyota_ae71 Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 G'day everyone My good ol' ae82 starting to go soft (really soft) and was wondering what spring/inserts people have used for perfect tuning! it does a little bit of motorkhana and khanacross but is also a street driven car so if you could just tell me what ya have under your beast and how she handles that would be tops! :P Cheers Corey Quote
Des Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 I have in my ae82 twincam Rear Stock height king springs. KYB dampers. White line adjustable sway bar. Custom wheel alignment. Front Stock twincam springs. KYB dampers. Stock sway bar. And again a custom wheel alignment. Sticks to the road like shit to a blanket. Keeping the sway bar settings and wheel alignment settings to myself too many hours put in to tell. Quote

Des Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 awesome thanks for that but i have 4ac model so can i fit twin cam springs to my struts front and back and are the standard twin cam springs any more heavier?? Cheers Corey You need twincam struts to fit twincam springs. Not sure if they are heavier or not. I don't think the SOHC models had a front sway bar either. Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 ohh ok do you think that is worth doing and is there any mods to do it? and just checked yeah it dosnt have a front swaybar :P Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 not only are the springs different but where the bottom of the strut bolts onto the hub is different also.. i found out the hard way :P Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008  but can they be modded to fit?? Quote
Des Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Put in a front sway bar, Leave the springs till later. Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 they can, which is what i did, but it ended up about 4 inches higher than stock!! Quote
tolisspi Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 is it really that the springs of twincam can't be fit to the soch? Quote
4ages Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 In my SOHC I have the struts from a DOHC with super low King springs, the SOHC hub, the DOHC strut brace and just threw in some OZ tec bushes, all old and saggy but the bushes made a big difference. Quote
FX16GTSWA Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 new to the boards... Ive got a US model AE82 FX16 GTS and I want to find some springs to drop the little hatch, can anybody point me in the right direction for a set... Quote
Johno Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I got a ae82 sohc with 4ac engine. I will soon be upgrading to 4age. I have already upgraded the brakes from a ae94 and before do the engine conversion i want to upgrade my suspension. I got a mate who just bought red koni adjustable shocks and they are friggen awesome now i want some too. I got dohc strut braces waiting to get installed but i need 4 bolt struts. Is there anyway i can put twin can struts in my sohc corolla? Or does anyone have other idea's? I just want the car to be about 1.5 inch lower with harder suspension with tight handing Quote
Bowler Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Ok, sohc doesn't have sway bar - can get aftermarket ones from whiteline, or get one off a wrecked twinky. The front hubs (so i learnt today) will accommodate twinky springs/shocks (which are the same as ae92 springs/shocks) save for the ae82 top hat. This means that theoretically, you could run ae92 sx/gti springs shocks, with ae82 top hats, with no issue. At the back, i'm asking how hard is it to run ae92 uprights - as in to allow far again, the use of ae92 spring/shock combination. If you do run the ae92 shock, then you can get koni shocks, which as johno said, are rather shiny indeed (btw they are koni YELLOWS johno - lol). The reason why you can't bolt up ae92 struts straight away, is due to the fact that the bolt holes are an extra half inch apart on an ae92 upright. Quote

Ive got a US model AE82 FX16 GTS and I want to find some springs to drop the little hatch, can anybody point me in the right direction for a set... If you can get them, run whiteline or lovells...both australian - but whiteline deffinietly can send them (not sure about lovells). you'll find you're running the equivalent to a twinky (dohc 'twincam') setup in it Cheers Edited September 3, 2008 by Bowler Quote
