the Db king Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 4k-u are a electronic dizzy with mechanical advanced, I'm almost sure the 5k and 7k are electronic with mechanical advanced 2 Quote
beerhead Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Hey, I think it might be worth going down the road of an aftermarket controller for the ignition, I haven't used one, but I think it'd be a better route than going to a vaccum advance dizzy of some kind. Ebay Ignition controller Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Do you have access to a metal lathe? I have a custom made dizzy for a 4K at home here that has a EFI sensor on it for TBI injection setup for a 4K so ECU and run dizzy with fuel. VERY easy to do just need a good measuring device draw up idea and turn it up. If you want I can get pics of mine. Pretty much if you know what your doing don't see why not you can't fab one up in a day. Mine was ECU advance but no mechanical on it But to add that wouldnt be hard either Cameron Quote

I do have a lathe but can not see how that would help unless I use another dizzy with mac advance. That's why I asked what dizzy's could be converted, Thanks for your help I will try and follow up your idea if I can work it out, Cheers Quote
beerhead Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 (edited) Come on guys isn't the year 2008? I'd really evaluate the amount of effort and money adapting a dizzy from another car onto a 4AGE, its just isn't the best solution if you really want the best out of your motor. My mates twin throttle LPG 308 on an expensive programmable crane module made 10% better power than factory electronic ignition, and it used less fuel! If I were to build a worked carby motor again I'd go to a fully programmable ignition and throw away dizzy completely, in the last few years it'd become an affordable option. These are a brother of the megasquirt gear - the best part is it has a 3D TPS x RPM x degree's advance tuning table, or even a map sensor if you plan to boost. Download the interrogator software to look at the features, it's good stuff. Has RPM based auxiliaries as well, you could have an electric fuel pump controlled by the module too, much safer than a switch. Megajolt programmable ignition AU $140 Delivered (unassembled) Now that there is a cult following of the Megasquirt gear on the net you can get a kit at a bargain price too, Full EDIS kit, coilpacks, wheel, igniter, VR sensor AU $140 Delivered The mod a dizzy style install - 5K dizzy $80 - $100 Coil $50 Bushes - $20 Dizzy re-map - $80 Without machining you'll nearly hit the same mark as a fully programmable wasted spark install! There are many ways to skin a cat, make sure you look into every possibility. Edited March 10, 2008 by beerhead Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 ^^ Those kits look good. Another way is talk to Jason on RC here he has a 4agze with SC14 running waste spark system and coil packs if i remember right he knows that way to. And he runs a megga squirt ECU. Prob easiest route honestly. Cameron Quote

I always wanted to go down the road of crank trigger ignition but the systems I looked at "Electromotive" are $1500, Thes kits will do the job perfectly Thanks again Quote
