Twin aisans aren't anything flash. I've run them for quite some time in the past.

The best carb setup for all round performance on a street engine is a 28/36 DCD weber. It will make just as much if not more power than twin aisans with better throttle response and much much better economy. Best of all a DCD weber stays in tune. LOL.

Think about it, the stock aisan carb is probably one of the most unreliable parts on an old k series corolla... multiply by 2.

Shit, I must have been lucky. The twins I had (two different sets on different 5k's) were both set and forget. Didn't drop out of tune, actually idled better than a single carby, and gave the same economy as well. Hell even the insurance company liked them  But as I have never ran a weber I can't compare.

I had all the troubles cameron had as the second set started off with just a manifold that I was given. Had to suss out a linkage set up (old fuel hose linking the throttle shafts) and use standard single carbs. Aircleaners were modified aftermarket housings originally made for Holden carbies with Corolla bases welded in to them.

Pisses me off that I let go a complete 3k-b set up in good nick when I sold my first rolla :P

Sounds like we have had a few different experiences with them................ :P

I am interested because they would be easier to argue with a cop that they

are the original unit (so long as they don't notice its a 5k) and hopefully

would still perform well.

Still deciding......

How much is a set + manifold worth ?

I had a set for ages, set and forget. Nice budget mod. As Col said, get a complete setup, the extra heart ache is worth it.

The going rate for setup's are around $300 and have been for about 15 years!

With a pre ADR car you can pretty much run any carb setup you want. Shit the emission gear on a ke10 consists of a dump pipe to spray crankcase vapours down the transmission tunnel. :P

For a decent set of twin aisans with original airfilter box you would be looking at $300+. Way more if you bought them through a wreckers.

One of my twin setups came with the car all original missing air filters on the KE15.

Other set I got rebuilt carbies (looks like home job but there done) small port twin carby manifold (water inlet pipe cut off) and air filter box modified to fit a subi air cleaner this set me back $200. BUT that was mates rates so I consider that cheap so budget high.

But as Felix said KE1X can pretty much run any carbie so webber will probably be cheaper still and they should be able to touch you.

Thanks guys,

I am not worried about emmisions as much, instead the stuipid p laws.

This may be considered as a performance modification.

(although i am not that worried, they will hardly know what they are looking at)

I was more musing with the possibility of appearing to be legal under the laws.

I don't really care if i meet them or not, so long as i don't get into much trouble.

I will see what happens, i have been offered a couple of 32/36s free

so i may use one of them.

I remember that set on ebay.

Was neat YES. BUT missing a few hard to get linkage parts I spotted and the carbies I think were single carbe ones both bolted up and also the set I saw didnt have original air filter. So Again about $300+ is what you will pay for a set that is a bit muddled up and rough around the edges. But hey 30+ year old corolla parts umm yeah fair enough to say take what is given to you as you will never get a perfect set really.

Reg, could I just correct you on a point of order? I think you mean .020" (20 thou) head shave. I had one down .125 (about 3mm) and that was a BIG shave.

Normal programing may now resume..... :jamie:

Yes :y: sorry Redwarf was tired :P

everybody can find a 5k bar me.. i can't even give a 4k away in sydney :P and I'm not paying a wrecker 2,200 for a 7k.. if only i was in S.a. or QLD doesnt seem to be too many members in NSW

I paid $1600 for my 7K 3 years ago less alternator and a few other bits...and it's carbied as mentioned before.

Everything is more expensive in Sydney its just a given

If you can get a 32/36 in reasonable condition free, slap that on for the meantime and play the waiting game for a good set of twins.

While searching for 6 months for a twin SU manifold to pop up, I ended up with a set of twin DHLA Dellortos for 300 bucks with manifold, jetted and ready to go on a K series! (Off rollaclub before you ask - got in early!)
