KE555k Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Hey guys. I did my 5k ---> ke55 conversion yesterday, i was putting my 5k out of my ke30 into my ke55, anyway it all went relatively smoothly for a first time conversion. One problem i have is, with the gearbox selector, when i move the gearstick it wont go into any gears, it feels like its just stuck in neutral, it wont move forward or backward, just side to side? Any ideas at all? Also, when i bought the car the guy told me that the exhaust ports were all polished but the inlet had a sort of roughness to it, supposedly to produce turbulence and create a better air/fuel mix? is this normal? i've never heard of it thats all? Also, when i take my head off to do the head gasket, will the head need to be machined? is it necessary in all cases or only if it's not looking good with the straight edge? if i take it off to machine it should i cover the engine with something to prevent anything getting in? Thanks for any help! Nathan. |blink| Quote
Rollaboy2608 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 need more info on the box. Did you put in the box that came with the motor? was your old box ok? is the clutch cable actually attached? does it have oil in it? check the basics firstly, rather than pulling things apart unecessarily. That intake story, IMO, is bull. Smooth is always better. By having rough ports, it increases turbulence yes, which also slows down flow. Technically, you should always have the head machined, to ensure there arent any inconsistencies with the mating surface. On the other side, I've seen a few K series heads thrown on with machining without ever having a problem. But for probably less than $100 to have it crack tested and machined, its piece of mind I reckon Quote
KE555k Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 Thanks for the reply man. The box is the same that was on that motor, it was fine before, i didnt even seperate the box and motor, i just swapped them as one. I havent got the clutch cable connected but shouldnt it still be able to be pushed into gear? Quote
tojo2 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Have you had the shifter out of the box ? Quote
KE555k Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 yes the shifter was out of the box so that i could get the box out? the only thing i can think of is if the selector ball thing isnt sitting in the seat in the box? Quote
tojo2 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Yeah. Would be quick and sensible to check that out :y: Quote
KE555k Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 I know that, haha. I lost the extension bar for my socket during the conversion and i can't get to the damn nuts. Quote
KE555k Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 **** Update : Found my extension. Problem was as expected, selector wasnt lined up. Glad it was that simple. Not easy to line up and get it bolted in the right way with the carpet in the way. grrr Quote
