Going on sale during the second quarter this year, TRD HiLux pumps out at least 225kW and more than 400Nm from its supercharged 4.0-litre V6 engine.

Toyota regional manager Sean Hanley said Brisbane was chosen for the preview of the latest TRD model because of the popularity of HiLux in Queensland.

"HiLux has just become the best-selling vehicle in Queensland, so we believe there will be huge interest in the TRD HiLux," Mr Hanley said.

"When we call it a performance ute, we are not just talking about a power boost of more than 25 per cent and a lift in torque of almost 20 per cent.

"TRD has also applied its expertise to the suspension, brakes and styling to produce a complete performance package.

"What is really impressive is that the TRD enhancements to the HiLux were conceived, developed and carried out right here in Australia."

Mr Hanley said TRD HiLux will create an entirely new market segment - a unique combination of sports performance and real-world practicality.

"TRD HiLux is a great workhorse vehicle during the week for transporting tools, hauling a trailer and coping with the roughest terrain.

"When the weekend arrives, its performance and handling can be used by the whole family - carting dirt bikes and other gear, or towing a boat.

"Best of all, the TRD enhancements have - if anything - further improved the off-road abilities for which HiLux is renowned."

TRD HiLux will be the second vehicle in the TRD line-up, following the launch in August of the 241kW supercharged TRD Aurion.

The two TRD vehicles share a strong family resemblance in their styling cues.

TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development - the long-established umbrella for Toyota motorsport activities around the world.

And it's all Prado underneath. It's an interesting tribute to the old FJ, but I'd take the Prado almost anyday over the FJ Cruiser.

The US model we need here is the 5.7L Tundra. 380hp & 550Nm. Hell yeah!

I've driven a Tundra. Lotsa power, but imo a bit soft really. Build quality is so-so... very plastic inside (I suppose most toyotas feel that way to me these days) but JESUS the engine is good.

In the metal, FJ cruiser looks like something an 10 year old 'designed' in the back of his maths textbook. Horrible disgusting mismatch of styling [sic] and proportion and its just generally wrong wrong wrong. eeuuch. Not to mention that a sizeable portion of the external bodywork is plastic (echoes of Hummer H2) including those oh-so-tough-looking bumpers, grille and bash plate...

As much as I whine about Toyota not bringing enough models to AU, they can keep the FJ, and the Tundra too. I like the engine, but I'd buy it in a Landcruiser rather than that bloated penismobile.

Hmm. Off topic much? Um, TRD Hilux? Yep. I'd own one. I'll wait a few years for my Surf to explode and used TRD Hilux values to come down a bit and maybe pick one up.

The 200-series Lexus LX570 will be out soon. At this stage it appears that will be the only model sold in Australia with the 3UR-FSE. ;) TRD will be releasing a supercharger kit for the 5.7L Tundra in the not-too-distant future. Apparently going to be good for 480+hp. :bash:

Definitely down for a TRD Hilux. As soon as I finish the 2 cars I currently have and pay off my loan. So the should definitely be plenty of second hand ones by then.
