hey was wondering what rims to fit to a ae82 sedan. i guessing 4x100 with about +40 or so offset?? And what is the biggest rim and trye combo before speedo starts playing up?? obviously can't exceed stock rolling diameter.

I have the same except on a hatch. No idea about offset though. I had some troubles with scraping on the rear arches whilst I had weight in the back. Unless you want to replace the tyres often and get a terrible ride then just stick with 15's.

offset dosent effect the speedo.

if the rolling diameter dosent change than it dosent matter how wide the tyres are or how large the wheels are as far as the speedo accuracy is concerned.

some people like to ride in a car that feels like a bed of pillows, i wouldnt think than lower profile tyres "ruin" the ride if you still have the soft standard suspension. for example i have just went back to 14"s from 15"s with 195/50 tyres and i have 8-10kg front springs. that produces a rough ride but if they where with softer springs there wouldnt be an issue.

lower profile tyres on larger diameter wheels doesnt make them wear faster, if they scrub on your gards obviously they will cut into them. in which case you may need to get your guards rolled or you have got too much offset on the wheels.

adding track, smaller profile, wider rubber wider wheel all add to a positive change to the handling as you will feel it more stable, sharper feel, less tyre roll and ofcorse with wider rubber generaly there is a reduction in stopping distance.

don't forget that no matter what wheels/tyres you buy get desent quality tyres as even with std wheels this can make a desent change. generaly the more you pay the better you get. steer clear of the crappy manufactors such as sava, dark horse, clear, (don't even consider recaps), job jane brand, "quality" etc. yokahama generaly have good value for money but other respected manufactorus like bridgestone, michelen etc.

i have managed to ramble on quite a bit, hopefully this does answer other questions you have and give you some food for thought.

ok cheers. i don't really mind a bumby ride. I'm thinkin about lowerin 2 inches or so with king springs or something alike. also does the srut brace of the twin cam model bolt on in the single cam AE82?? and also is this worth doing, is there any improvement in handling???

yes it does bolt on. and yes it is worth doing and yes it will improve the handling. plus i would also suggest you get the front sway bar from the twinky as well to further improve the handling.

yeh sweet. what is involved in fitting it. i notice there is a bracket that bolts to the firewall an the strut brace bolts to the bracket. is that right. also are there like standard bolt holes in the firewall already??

There are holes in the firewall already. You need to remove the brake vacuum line and reattatch it because it will foul the mounting at the firewall. If you have a standard suspension rolla you should really notice the handling difference. Front sits a lot flatter through the corners.

I dunno about the sedan but I bought twincam swaybars for my single cam seca and found they were identical to the stock ones on there already ;)

possible that someone had already installed them, from what i could gather the ae8* singlecams never had factory front swaybars

i have fit 17x7 wheels on my ae82 sohc, with a 3mm spacer which i glued to the drum. of course the fenders were 'rolled' using a baseball bat wrapped in duct tape first. they cleared with 205/40/17 tyres. the offset has to be JUST RIGHT to pull this off, though. otherwise: rubbing.

after fiddling with everything from a 13x5 to a 17x7 on this car, I have determined that my enkei 13x5 wheels are the BEST choice. why? simply because our sohc cars have only 72hp. the 13x5 wheels are 12 pounds 12 ounces. go with the smallest aluminum wheels you can get your hands on. i go my set of four Enkei at the junkyard for $120 total. there are a few 14 and 15" rota wheels that are the same weight or slightly lighter, but are very costly. anything beats the ugly look of the stock steelies.

remember that 4x100 bolt pattern is shared by honda, acura, mini cooper, and other cars as well. plenty of wheels out there in that bolt pattern. stay small and light weight and you'll be good.
