76 Yota Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Hi all, just pick up a 1976 Toyota Corolla yesterday for a little over $500. Bought it from a previous mechanic, but there's a good indication that he didn't do much on it besides the basics. I'm not sure if it's a DLX or an SR5. I'm thinking it's a DLX since it's a 4 speed manual. Although there are louvers in the hood right where the air filter intake is, usually an indication of the "sport" model. It has the 1588cc motor(1.6L?) 2TC. The power plant is completely dirty, and typical of older models, there are tubes and wires going to nowhere. So far I've made a list to basically replace ALL the tubing since pats are so cheap. I drove this 60 miles to get it home on the freeway without incident, so it leads me to believe the power plant is in decent working order. Before I drove it home, I stopped at Checkers to get a new air filter(was almost %100 black) and a new battery. The alternator light was on, which I was told about from the owner, but found out later that the alternator was not even hooked up! There was NO 4ga. going to the battery! So far I've bought parts for an oil change, cap and rotor, plugs and wires, new battery cables, and carb. cleaner Will keep everyone posted if interested! a few pics! Some hardcore audio! Power plant No cable from alternator to battery! Car info. Dirty dirty! One of the many missing tubes! Quote

76 Yota Posted January 28, 2008 Author Report Posted January 28, 2008 Nice find. Many of these puppies around where your from?? This is only the second one I found. I was looking at a 4-dour sedan that was in horrible shape. The interior was completely gutted, and the body had rust, holes etc. They wanted $1K for it. Laughed when I walked away. Hopefully I can find some people near me. I'm still trying to figure out if it's an SR5 or the DLX model. Quote

JiP Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Definately not an SR5. You would know from sitting in it. The speedo cluster would be all differant cause it would have a tacho, there would also be a 5 speed and twin carbs. If memory serves me correctly the SR5 was only available in the hardtop. Quote
