ke55_1GGTE Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 Yeah just started. done most body work, diff is sitting at mates shop getting shorter, half cut will be here at the end of the month. interior needs work crash pad on top of dash is fuked so I'm fiberglassing up a new dash. but keeping the standard guages. there will be some other gauges, boost, oil pressure, water temp. Few questions for the people who have done this convo. What front Brakes did you use? What Diff did you use? and has any 1 done this in QLD? Sorry no pics yet digi cam shit it self (you wont wanna look at it yet looks like shit) I will keep every1 up to date Peter Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 What front Brakes did you use? Do a search for this info, its been covered heaps of times, the options are RA Celica struts, Nissan silvia struts, or hopper stopper kits (falcon brakes). What Diff did you use? Once again search. The options are: Hilux diff, apparently the early ones are nearly the right length, lsds are available. Mazda b1800 diff, huge axels, and only 20mm too long in total, lsds are available, but rare and expensive. BTR78, comes out in commos vl-vs, falcons ea-el, and r31 skyline and pintara. the strongest and most expensive option, but you have to get the right one as they come with 25 spline, and either 2 or 4 pin centre. has any 1 done this in QLD? definately, the are heaps of these things on toymods LOVE KE70 is a member on here that has one in a ke70, toymods would definately have more info for you on the conversion though. Also, I hope you rung QLD Transport if you want to get this machine road registered. I heard a rumour 2L is the highest legal you can go in them.. but I don't really know that for sure. They told me an SR20DE engine which is 2L is legal to do. As long as it is compliance plate. Though I'm sure if you get this thing engineered report and a compliance plate it shouldn't be too hard... Hope this comes through! Would love to see pictures. Quote

If you had checked, you would know that this motor is a 2L, but is also turboed, so you require a formula which I can't remember, but is readily available on this forum, to figure out the true capacity of this engine in relation to the weight of the vehicle. We seem to get the same questions on this forum over and over, when the information is all there if you SEARCH!!!!!! Quote
ke55_1GGTE Posted January 21, 2008 Author Report Posted January 21, 2008 thanks for all the info but i have already checked with QLD transport they said ok to engine conversion as long as i up grade brakes and maybe suspension. Quote
styler Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 well in qld from the book of practice: ke55 = 920kg auto sedan engine swap with safety upgrade: NA piston type motor in cc = weight in kg x 3 Forced induction piston type motor in cc = weight in kg x 2.5 so ke55 NA = 920kg x 3 = 2760cc and ke55 forced induction = 920 x 2.5 = 2300cc Quote

love ke70 Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 first things first f@$k the factory twins off and convert to single. what box you running and how you doing the clutch? what fuel system are you going to run? are you fmic? whos fabbing the engine mounts and gearbox mounts? i run ra65 brakes, seem good. have an alfa romeo diff (don't ask, don't go there) whose going to do the exhaust? dump pipe will probably be a c**t btw. mine sure is. what radiator you going to use and how are you going to get it to fit and stay without putting the harmonic balancer through it? (been there, done that) what top and bottom hoses will you use? bottom hose will be a prick. are you using standard ecu? are you using power steering? whose doing the engineering? how much have you budgeted? I'm assuming you think you will get it on road for a bit over 5k yeah? I'm predicting 10-12 minimum cheers, andrew Quote

Does this guy know what he is doing??? Is he just another wanker who just thinks he can do anything??? Just maybe he might be a qualified boiler maker. Who can make his own mounts and exhaust. Just maybe he has a mechanical background. and maybe he has done this shit before If i can manage to put anRB20DET legally into a f@$king Mitzi L300 Van lets see i twin charged a R31 Skyline RB30DET!!! than put nitrous on it for funnies. Yes DET RB26DET Head don't mean to be rude but I think i can handle a little corolla Budget has nothing to do with any1 but me so i know how much i got to spend. and I'm using twin turbos, made new exhaust manifolds i now run T25's Peter. oh what a nissan feeling! Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) Sounds to me that you pretty much have it covered. Start a thread in the 'rides and projects' section of this forum and keep us all informed. :hmm: Pretty easy conversion from what ive seen, theyre a pretty small six. R#! cut down diff with disk brake ass end. Not sure about this, i don't think they are known for their stength. If youve joined toymods heres a link for you. ke30 1ggte for sale Edited January 27, 2008 by oh what a nissan feeling! Quote
