TFBoy Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) Hi all! I'm new to this forum, becoz i got a manual ae112r corolla with about 150kms on it... Ive owned 2 magnas before this..so this is a change i guess, could you guys tell me about those 1.8's? as i got no idea about them, like performance, fuel economy, maintainence, reliability or minor mods as it only has 85kw and 154nm..comparing to my 3rd gen v6 magnas which has 140-150kw and 300nms etc.. great appreciated! MYSTIK[RL] Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 hmm well considering the magna has 2 more cylinders and 1.7 litres more capacity i would expect it to have more power out of the box :y: well lets see for basic mods i would proabaly say CAI(with washable filter ie, K&N), exhaust, springs, shocks, bushes, and maybe swaybars. plus changing the oil every 5000 - 10000 km and if you don't rev the tits off motor, it will see you right for quite a few years  Quote
TFBoy Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 yeh, i know, but considering the lower weight and manual its allright btw do u guys change the timing belt at 150k? or is it just do it if u feel like it item? Quote
MYSTIK[RL] Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 toyota recommend the timing belt be changed every 100,000 km Quote
Jono Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 people don't normally mod the 7afe (your 1.8) as its the economy motor. if you feel like throwing money at it, get it handling properly and get some light weight alloy wheels and sticky tires. Quote

Jono Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 pfft. uSA. when have they ever done anything good? i've got a stock ae112r and the thought of a modified one makes me feel sick. Quote

Jono Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 (edited) anything. i'm into our ae112r for shopping trips and general transport. its not a cool car, never will be. its reliable and will still have half decent resale value in a couple of years. i personally don't see the point in wasting money or time on some exhaust so it sounds harder than it ever will be or some cold air induction for a 1.3kw gain or cheap chinese rims or bodykit on it either as it wasn't designed to be a sporty car - its a fwd shopping trolley. love it for what it is. cheap, reliable transport. save your money. just my 2c. if you want a fwd sporty corolla, buy an SX. MYSTIK[RL] Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 if you want a fwd sporty corolla, buy an SX. why would a person that has asked for info about basic mods for thier CURRENT corolla want to sell it and buy an sx. i had the same problem when i first modified my CS hatch everyone was saying to sell it and buy an SX. (i did buy and sv only 5 years later and i have been able to swap most of the aftermarket parts from the CS to the SX) the point I'm trying to get across is that if this person wants to modify the ae112 they should go for it, ii its what they want to do not because its the norm. if we all followed a particular trend then the modified car scene would be a very bland and tasteless scene to be a part of. plus to the person who started this thread i also recommend that they also sign up on Twincam.org and Toyota Owers Club for a bit more of a broader view of opinions :D Quote
TFBoy Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 yeh i see your pt, as it isnt worthwhile to chuck moeny on it to make it go faster, but i still think some light mods shud be allright...people get bagged for modding their magnas as well. for the magnas, its simply exhaust, air filter and lower it ( if youre on a budget) and that only gives u minimal gains as well..i guess its similar for the corolla. Nice cars, but he's a bit of a tool :) Quote
SoulSearcher Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 hey! wait up....AE112R's aren't just fwd shopping trolly's they can and DO look good with some mods. Why would you want to? To make your car unique! Sure if you don't want to, that's your opinion, but for people with 112's who want to, you can chuck on some glamour mods, rims and exhaust, bodykit and you have yourself a cool little car. gosh if you want a straight out shopping trolly, may as well go for a suzuki or a kia. TFBoy Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 thanks for all the replies..and info on twincam etc. driving the car for a bit now, i must say its not too bad..nice and quiet and ok acceleration being a manual. the only thing i find a bit annoying is a slight stering shudder/vibration in 3rd when I'm in slight hurry, i think it might be wheels or maybe steering.
