TOMsGPTurbo Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 There is a proposed law that's going to be in place targeting spectators at hoon events, ie illegal drag racers, or burnouts etc. Fines and demerit points. Thought this might be of interest. Drive safe  Quote
towe001 Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 And here i was thinking there already was, just under different names - "vagrancy" and "anti-social groupings" being two of them. But all in all its just another way of forcing us to give up our rights and freedoms. Quote
Des Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Been there done that got done. They generally don't book you for loitering but they just block off the exits and then drive down where people are doing "skids" and make people scatter then defect time. Booking people for being spectators to hooning groups will make a MASSIVE dent in illegal skids/hooning nights. Quote
kangaroosa Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Years ago when i used to spectate, the police rarely booked the people racing (basically because they saw the lights and were in a prime position to bail). They always blocked of the exits and defected most cars that left. I was one of the few cluey ones that parked a few hundred metres away in a back street. Its only the silly posers that park their cars close and show off their pride and joy there that get booked. Admittably no one should be there in the first place, but it was years ago when it wasnt so out of control. These days Calder Park has Friday night meetings to combat it. The one time i parked close, the cops came over and made a note of my license number and warned me not to come back. It worked for a few weeks till the whole hoon scene calmed down and changed locatons. VIC has strict hoon laws already. Fines, court appearances, confiscation of your car etc I'm surprised other states hadn't caught on until now. Quote
TOMsGPTurbo Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) I believe that's the whole idea, and a great idea! As long as its not abused and we aren't targeted when we have cruises then its all good. What got me thinking, just say you go for a club drive and some newbie wanker decides to come along and starts pulling skids all over the place when a cop car goes past,..... its going to be at the disgression of the police officer on what happens next, how do we defend ourselves? It was mentioned that people who witness random events of hooning won't be charged (thanks) but to me this is going to cause a lot of grey areas mainly from our side. I'm definitely anti-hooning and believe there is a time and place = both on a track, but the hoons out there are making it worse for the rest of us. Fines, court appearances, confiscation of your car etc I'm surprised other states hadn't caught on until now. I use to watch up here in QLD but the last times i went i didn't drive there, I hitched a ride with mates or walked. I welcome the new laws as some things these people do is just stupid, I'm talking about the spectators not the drivers. People throwing flairs, Turning on hydrants at intersections for the cars with open centers, Fights etc. I'm getting bored watching unskilled people do donuts even though i use to do them there but i grew out of it pretty quick. A few weeks ago a chick driving a EB/ED XR8 got done for doings skids and the weekend after she was back at it, Couldn't drive for shit and risked every ones lives. Ive found new things to do now which is good i guess. Quote
kangaroosa Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 I agree whole heartedly. I stopped spectating years ago when it stop being about the regular talented drivers and their cars. I walked away from the scene when people solely went to do burnouts in the middle of intersections, and fights became a regular occurance. Quote
sherlock Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 I shall only say one thing. Fags  Quote
KE70-from-mt-panorama Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 This is on a similar note (new policing). Police are starting to drive hotted up cars covered in decals then to add the the whole "disguise" they are putting P-Plates on these cars. They are then proceeding to pull up next to people and encouraging them to drag them, then when they go the copper doesnt do anything and books the person who shot off. I personally think this is F*#@ed up. But in all honesty who is going to pull over for a car with P-Plates? Even if they had the red and blue lights in the dash, you would just think its a young person who got some coloured lights joking around scaring people. Back on topic i don't hoon or watch hooning, the most i would do is get a few mates together and do a few laps of mt panorama then sit at the entrance and talk for a while, and watch the prospective lappers going in and doing their lap, watching the coppers going in to book the prospective lappers etc. Quote
