I have just bought a new corolla that has been partly (so they say, I would have no idea) lowered and it keeps scrubbing only on the drivers side tyre even when there is other people in the car, and its starting to cut up my tyre pretty bad.

It has 17" rims on it and i have been told that its possible that the wheels may be way to big for the actual car??

But I was thinking of just undoing the 'damge' (in my opinion) and putting regular suspension back on it.

Just wondering if its worth it or not, or is there something else i can do??

scrubbings just part of having a lowered car and big rims. You could try getting the guards rolled or "massaged" depending on where its scrubbing. Head to a tyre place and get them to have a look at it. They are usually willing to help and give some free advice.

Shamry: Like Ben said, it depends on what is actually hitting. Usually the problem is the rim is offset too far to the outside (or too wide), and as a result the outside edge of the tyre rubs against the inside edge of the guard. My Lancer GSR used to do that to the back tyres.

If it is only rubbing a little, you might be able to get away with just bending the inside face of the wheel arch upwards to make it flush against the outside face. That way, it still looks the same from outside, and you don't risk cracking the paint (except on the actual edge of the arch, which isn't really visible anyway. Make sure you repaint the crack though to stop rust).

If it's rubbing fairly badly, then you'll probably have to properly roll the guards outwards, that will give you more clearance between the tyre and guard.

One other thing you could try is maybe get a wheel alignment. However, I doubt this would fix your problem unless there are problems with your alignment, or if you have adjustable camber (either via pins or tops)

Raising your car won't achieve all that much. It will lessen the frequency of your tyre hitting your guard, but when your springs compress (big bump, big people in car, etc) it will still hit. Best to fix the actual clearance issues.

Just re-read what I typed, and hmm, wow. If you need further explanation let me know and I'll try to explain that again. If you're lucky I might even be able to use pictures :insane:

Hmm, should return slide hammer. Then again, using slide hammer to roll guards probably isn't the best idea... Would definately get more clearance, but no... :insane:

Should still return slide hammer, and magazine! I am so slack :jason:

Heh, no... I borrowed Rob's slide hammer awhile ago to get the axles out of my diff. Have since finished with it (for now), but have not returned it, because I am slack.

Slide hammers are like hammers, except you use them to pull things out (as opposed to push things in like hammers do). So yes, you *could* use a slide hammer to pull your front guards out for more clearance, but the end result most definately wouldn't be very pretty.
