irokin Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 rope...very very bad idea. We were lifting 20kg cheek plates out of a crusher last weekend and we ended up having to weld lifting lugs on them because the rope wouldnt hold. Get yourself some steel rope (at least). Shouldnt set you back much with hooks on either end. Quote
Teddy Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 More like belts if anything. (insert spelling fairy RID spray here) Jack up rear, put car stand on both sides of lip seal. Dissconect seased tail shaft. Kick tail shaft. Tail shaft falls down. Dissconet tail shaft in center CV type joint. Pull tail shaft. Nothing happens. Get belt rope, tie to end of tail shaft, pull back from behind car with uber force. POP Out she comes. Oooozes smelly fluid out slowly. Dissconect zillions of gearbox attachents. Jack motor up to match weird angle of gearbox. Pull and pull. Oops, disconet speedo cable helps. Pull again. Grrrr. Keep going. GRRRRR. Connect rope upto gearbox. Pull from rear (i looked like i was giving birth :lock: ) Keep pulling. POP BANG - Thud. "shes out" Jack rear up, take out left safety stand. Place under front right lip seal. Jack up car on chassy rail, pull the safety stand clips up higher. (car looked like a structial write-off) drag gearbox out with ropes via side of car which is now on a very close 45° angle. Fart around, fiddle, bang. shes out. To think we did it all on grass, and with a sprinter thats got king spring ultra lows all round . Bahahha. With 2 desk lamps in the dark. :(( Quote

Jason Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 AHHHHHHHHHHHHH after going through so much to the the gze out, a 10mm cam bearing bolt decided to thread stopping the cam shaft from coming out :D any body know any ways to get it off? Quote
Teddy Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 10mm bolt has descided to thread the head to a round shape. Need to get it out. Gah. Bolt is well stuck in the thread. Vice grips are our next try.. Quote
Teddy Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 yup - the bolt isnt a bolt any more, its like a round cube, 40% smaller. Screw driver method doesnt work, shes too stuck atm. Hopefully drenching in RP30 will work its majic :D Quote
rwdrolla Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 drill a hole through the head, like u would if u wanted a split pin, then put some 2-3MM spring wire through it, and twist like a jar of jam. Quote
Teddy Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 i suggested that to jason, but he doesnt have anything apporaite to turn the bolt without it breaking / let alone a drill piece that will go through the size of the bolt we are getting out. Great idea in theory tho! Quote
Jason Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 the bolt is less that 5mm across if you can find a metal around the home that can withstand the force of seized nuts, and less than 2mm in diameter let me here it Quote
Jason Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 (edited) got it off :D Pics from on stand to head off :D thanks to mr bench vice, and street pole for helping getting bolts off ;) now teddys said something about a acid bath to get all the crap off it????
