Jason Posted January 6, 2005 Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 (edited) cool, ok cleaning up the engine bay. Painted the tops of the mounts they look nice, but can i put the rubbery bits in degreaser? thread THREAD!!!!!!! Is it so hard to spell? Edited January 6, 2005 by Medicine_Man Quote
demuire Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Jason: If you have the time (and patience), I'd refrain from painting the engine bay until the engine has been trial fitted. This is because you will probably have to drill holes for stuff etc, and you'll probably scratch your nice new paint when trial fitting the engine anyway. I had to repaint bits and pieces of my engine bay multiple times when putting my engine in... And that was after trial fitting the block once! Generally rubber doesn't like petrol (and degreaser). If you're going to use degreaser to clean the rubber bits (what else would you use I suppose?) then make sure you wash it off after you've cleaned it. Then get some of that "rubber reviver" stuff and put that on to protect the rubber. Quote
Jason Posted January 6, 2005 Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 (edited) Nuh I'm not painting it just cleaning it. OK wont wash the mounts found this should i get it $10 to brisbane Surge Tank I just think there to much stuffing around to mount the surge tank under car. So it will either go in engine bay or boot. Jason Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 (edited) Stripped the pain off the boot lid, as you probably know i was having bad blending problems. So it all cam off with 1 1/2 can of paint remover. Hell of a job. The paint in using is perfect sprayed it over an 'fresh' part were the plates go, can't tell were it is except for the run down the bottom  O well I'm stuff and now for pix Boot Lid had to use an almost empty can of primer :P so i will have 2 convince mum to take me to super cheap and hopefully repco to get my brake parts and dims machined. On that matter what has the cheapest parts? I got quoted... um i can't find the sheet teddy has the scanned version would you be so kind as to post the prices. But it comes out to be about $150 for every thing, new shoes, pistons and machining is that a good price? Edited January 9, 2005 by Jason Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 don't let the council catch you doing that on the street or they will have you bent over big time.. Quote

Medicine_Man Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 If I was you i'd find a drop sheet that I could use and make sure you do it in a well ventilated area. Quote
Jason Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 The waste is not the problem (you just scope it up) but its SOOO horrible, i tried it in my back yard but it was still unbearable  Actually now that i think about there really no waste, i just brushed up the paint scrapings  Any way what do you guys think about the $150 for brake parts, i have to replace the parts myself Quote
Teddy Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 $150 he means - 2x rear drum t18 pads 2x drum piston thingies (push pads into / onto drum) 2x machining of drums Quote
demuire Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Haha, doesn't Mel work for the EPA? But yes, Jason - paint stripper is not for gutters, it's very very non-green-friendly. Quote
Jason Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 don't worry its all swept up  all the runs were all cought in the new paper. but is the brakes good or not? Quote
Redwarf Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 (edited) Give Cruisen Auto Spares in Nambour a call, tell them the Dwarf told you to call them. I know it's Nambour, but I'm up there about once a fortnight and can pick them up for you. They'll also machine the drums as well. I can drop them off in the morning, and pick them up that afternoon if required. 5441 6411, Nikki and Dave. Edited January 9, 2005 by Redwarf Quote
