Medicine_Man Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Toad hunting with a golf club is fun  I'm sure Nick can vouch for that too, he broke our last club whacking a toad.. Quote
demuire Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 (edited) As much as toads are pests, I think whacking them up a golf club is really really cruel. And I don't see why it should be accepted any more than those army people who set those kittens on fire. What, that's bad cause kittens are like cute and stuff? A friend of mine clubbed a toad on one of our camping trips, and it was one of the worst things I've witnessed. Especially since it basically split it's belly, but was still breathing and everything, and they just stood there laughing at it and pointing out bits "oooh there's the heart!" Following which they then proceeded to club it to bits. Poor toad. When I was a kid one of my neighbours was at my house, and a stray kitten wandered in. Just as my brother and I were going to go "oh, it's a little kitten" my neighbour stomped on it's head. It went into spasms and died. We never really ever saw or talked to that neighbour again after that... I dunno, maybe I'm a tree hugging hippy. I just like animals... Edited November 15, 2004 by demuire Quote
Medicine_Man Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 *Decided to split this thread guys* Thats a cruel thing to do to a cat, toads on the other hand are a pest in Australia, thats why I don't hesitate to kill them. Native species have to compete with them for food and animals that eat frogs mistake them for just that. They can also transmit diseases to native frogs and fish.. Heres a batch from my last cull.. Felix Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 (edited) i spent a lot of time growing up on my grandfathers canefarm. he saw first hand the destruction cane toads can do. they almost totally wiped out goannas, and a lot of other animals. guess it was just another one of those political/scientific stuffups. they introduced them to wipe out the cane beetle, and they almost wiped everything else out but. this thread reminded me of this  Edited November 15, 2004 by Felix Quote
demuire Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 I don't so much mind the fact that they have to be killed (they are, after all, a pest), but I do mind the whacking them around with a golf club thing, esp because a lot of the time all you do is split their bellies and break a few legs, and then leave them to suffer and die... Medicine_Man Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 I agree with your point of killing them as quickly as possible though fook.. Quote

Mr Revhead[RL] Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 nah tree hugging hippies wouldnt own such an awesom rolla! teddy, better make sure those toads arnt suffering!! Quote
irokin Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 yea I'm considering upgrading to 235s on the front only.... its like going from a .22 to a 12 gauge shotgun  Quote
Felix Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 the old cane toads are hardy things. i've seen one that had been run over, it's guts hanging out its mouth. about half an out later it sucked them back in and hopped off... Quote
Shamry Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I agree with Demuire, yeah they are pests and all, but they are also living creatures that feel and maybe think a little and its not fair to make them suffer..they don't know that they're pests But it sure is funny to see one go flying.. we usually stab them through the skull with spare pickets from my horses yard hehe. least they die quick that way! but then my mums partner leaves them in the garden still staked as surprises for my mum! :) Quote
