kickn5k Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Hey guy`s, Ive been looking into totally weird and different engine combinations for my KE-11. These are the things I'm after. 1. Different too what most people do 2. Available to be but back to stock easilly.(so not butchered) 3. Really light. 4. make around 280hp+ So in keeping with my list i have been looking around to see what could be done. Easiest would be a rotory but i make custom forged pistons and a rotor wouldn`t go down too well with the boss, and i don't own a charcoal chicken shop lol. So i have decided a turbocharged bike motor would be the go a guy in Sweden has a turbo(mild) honda fireblade in his mark 2 escort it makes about 250hp. And there are a lot of mini`s with hyabusa motors in england and a company there will make an adapter to suit the sproket drive from the gear box(which if i could be bothered i could make myself) but the best bit is that all you would need was to make a aircraft alum cradle to sit the engine and box in and its done. Have made pistons for a turbo busa before and it seems to be a common sort of upgrade to these bikes(are they not evil enough?) and they seem to make anything from 280-400hp depending on tune and turbo size. now i just need to find a crashed busa and I'm set, so i will be supercharging my 5k to keep me happy until its found. I will be talking to my engineer once they are back from holidays to see if it will be easy to engineer. should be something for all to discuss. stu. Quote
Redwarf Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Been discussed before. The problem being is that bike engines aren't exactly torque-city. You really need a sub 500Kg car IMHO for it to be anywhere near worthwhile. I Personally think it would be near undrivable in the city. Bike engines go well in Clubmans, but anything heavier and I think you're trying to re-invent the wheel. Quote
kangaroosa Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I think those overseas cars have to have an elec motor hooked up to reverse the car aswell (motorbikes not having reverse). Would sound great, but I can see the smile on your face would be < the hole in your wallet. Quote

Yeah i spose your right, it was just that i had heard of a cheap high klm written off hyabusa but the motor was a bit smokey. Looked like it would be a good project, may just have to buy a cheap clubman cart with no motor and mod the frame a little and shove it in that. this is what got me interested. Quote
kangaroosa Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Some more inspiration for you. Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 A Turbo Busa engine makes a fairly large amount of torque from what I've read....so I say go for it...I've wanted a bike engine in my car for ages. At least it's something different, and would keep everyone guessing. Just keep stuffing boost in it til it goes as hard as you wanted it to  Quote

dfunkt Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 pistons are about the only thing that doesn't worry kickn5k... i'd say find a secondary shell to put a bike powerplant in...that way you can keep the 5kZ and still have a turbo'd 'busa Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 He makes custom forged pistons....as stated in his first post...so pistons will probably be pretty cheap for him  or it goes boom don't those bike engine have high comp ratio that meens new pistons which meen more $$$$$ Quote
ae174agze Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 all i can say is that if u did it it would be crazy fast Quote
kewagon Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 get hold of soem of the latest editions of retro ford magazine, they are currently putting a busa engien into an Anglia, they were is the same boast with thinking it mgith not have enough torque, but they said it would prob be like a60's or 70's race engien with loads of revs to get it to do anything, would be a weapon IMO Quote
towe001 Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Suzuki Swift GTi block with the Serria crank and bore the block out 60thou That way you don't have trouble with finding a reverse gear and in "theory" you'll be keeping the motor under 1.3litre Quote
YKE 20T Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 do it! it would be spastically fast not to mention the exhaust note (14,000rpm + boost = glorious noises)!! even if you never got registered and only used it on the track it would be sooo cool!!! Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 There was a little honda convertable at the last powercruise i went to with a zx12 motor fitted. The sound of that thing in a car is like nothing else, and the conversion was so neat, go it i recon  Quote

I think i`ll be chasing another car. Young kid next door has a spare mini shell, midmount track car would be the optimum setup i feel. The engineer was not too keen on the idea of having electric motors for reverse gear, and as i really feel that these ke-1x`s are scarce enough on the road rego is high on the list. I am still really keen for a bike engine in a car so i`ll keep all informed. stu. Quote
