Jason Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Ok after getting a lot of WTF's and strange looks when I ask people if they have 'wire stops'. I'm wonder if any of you guys know where to get these little things. Wire Stops They are the screw type cable termination for cables (throttle cables ect) and I don't know where to look. Thanks J Quote
Xany Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Just about any Corolla Choke cable will have one secured to the end of it somehow. Failing that, i'd be asking at a mower shop. Quote
flat out Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 you can use parts out of powe points and light switches, not ideal but iv done it before and it worked well Quote
Jason Posted December 4, 2007 Author Report Posted December 4, 2007 Well i deiced to make my own, just got back with some screws and some tube stock. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Try Flexidrive Agencies, They sell all the gear for throttle cables/speedo drives etc. http://www.fdrive.com.au/ Where I got my accelerator cable from when I snapped it.. Quote
KE30_KE35_KE55 Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Or you can buy a terminal strip cut off the plastic and you have 12 for $2.00 Quote

camerondownunder88 Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Push bike shops have them on the shelf. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Or you can buy a terminal strip cut off the plastic and you have 12 for $2.00 :jamie: thats what I used to have on my throttle cable. Upgraded to one of things you use for centre locking to attched the actuator to the steel rod in the door, they work really well. Quote
styler Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 (edited) for bigger ones - push bike, go kart, minibike, big motor bike, mower and carb shops. for smaller ones - hobby shops try screw type "cable ends" rather than wire stops :jamie: Edited December 4, 2007 by styler Quote
styler Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 terminal ends can work on straight pull cable setups. on a changing angle setup ie a lever arm you need either a barrel end cable stop and a barrel shaped recess or a swivel end built into the end of the arm which some arms have, some even have bearings! but most just grease. or a wrap around arm where the cable curves around the arm and pulls away from the arm as it moves inwards. but you don't have to have one of the above, you can clamp the wire on the arm using a cable through clamp bolt or drill a hole in a very thin arm and put a screw type cable end on the other side, thats only if if the angle doesnt change much, you hardly use it and it doesnt take much force then it will last but if its used a lot, takes a fair force and has a big angle change then it will fatigue and snap regularly which happens to dodgy carb linkages as i found out :jamie: so i looked into it and found out the above then got some decent linkage.
