cuzzo Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) Bare Metal Respray. Way too much work for me. Hows the number plates / fill;er going to work? Flip the plate up? Edited March 26, 2009 by cuzzo Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted March 27, 2009 Author Report Posted March 27, 2009 Yeh, a flip down i'm pretty sure. i have one here off an LH torana but it is really bulky. I may have to redesign it a bit when the time comes. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Use an electric solenoid on a switch in the dash. Then it doubles as a number plate hider for when you may require one. ....and because you have the fuel filler there it would be easy to get out of if you every get pulled over by :( . "Sorry officer, I just filled up with petrol and forgot to flip it back up!" :) Quote
greenmac80 Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 man your a legend!! you weren't joking about the rear quarters being hard!! done lots of filing sanding... whoops too much off redo again etc etc. i reckon i got one side done but still got one more!! you gonna do any bay work? Quote

Yep, they are so annoying, mine are pretty good now, but the hours it took of panel beating, and filing......... i don't even want to start counting :( Good to see you're not discouraged though, keep at it :D The bay will get done when the new motor or C4 goes in, I'm not sure when that will be though. It may be after rego, or during the build, depending on how long this paint takes. Edited March 27, 2009 by oh what a nissan feeling! Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 Have rdo today, so i took my bottom end bits to PLR machine shop. Things i gave them to do: Linish crank Line hoan mains Torque plate bore Balance engine Deck block. Will get it all back in two weeks, and will begin assembly. Will post prices up on here once i pick up the bill. The commo all loaded up. Still waiting on welder, so progress on the shell has halted :bash: Quote
sleepercorty Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 looking good what sort of power figures will you be chasing Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 3, 2009 Author Report Posted April 3, 2009 My goal is 400rwhp, i don't have the money to spend on my intended head yet, (although the one I'm running is pretty good), so it will be about 370-380 at a guess Quote
SLW42 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 400hp in a 30 would be insaine and on boost aswell Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 3, 2009 Author Report Posted April 3, 2009 Long term goal is to run a 9 sec pass and still be 100% street legal, the moroso calculator says i need 480 hp at the flywheel to run a 9.9, so that is the immediate aim. After that i need to spend many many moons, attempting to set the car up in a way that will get the power to the ground. Therefore the plan to go C4 auto, ect, ect.... Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 Moved the 30 from the oldies house to my house finally, mmmmm spacious garage!!! Have been doing a fair bit of welding, seams/ rust/ badge holes ect. Also got my stuff back from the heat coating place, so shiny!!! cost $300 still waiting on engine back from the shop, should be next week i recon. Quote

PHATKE20S Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 how good do the manifolds look with that coating!!!? Yeah Jono Matt's attention to detail is an inspiration to us all...... ;) Can't wait to see this car again once it's all finished.......... :D Then he can start on the Crown, that thing will be unique i'm sure........... ;) Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 22, 2009 Author Report Posted April 22, 2009 ^^ thanks doug, youre a champ. The coating actually looks that good in real life too, it is seriously cool, a polished alloy type look. I think in the coming 6 months i will become a very regular customer. Forgot to bring my camera today. Have finished all welding, and the whole car is in etch. My old etch used to be grey the new tin is scum green, so it looks a bit patchy. :P Working hard at getting it straight enough to undercoat, getting close, i just have the edges, and the more detailed bits to deal with. Have not heard from PLR yet about my motor, but i forgot to give them my harmonic balancer, so that was a delay for them. looking at ordering my new suge tank this week too. :P Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted June 3, 2009 Author Report Posted June 3, 2009 Ok, finally some new pics. I have been working every arvo for a few months now. I got my bottom end back from plr, had full balance crack test, line hoan, torque plate bore, crank grind ect ect. $960. sitting in the spare room atm until i can get a clean spot to put it together. sent the quads off to get heat coated too. Also spent a bit of time porting them to remove some of the casting edges and improve flow also disassembled my door handles by grinding the pins off, and sent them to the chromers. Had to paint strip them as well because of previous colour scheme. They will be back in 2 weeks. Have also spent many many more hours on the bodywork, and the whole car is now in undercoat finally, and is looking real straight so far on the final rubdown. Will start on my bumpers soon as they need a bit of brass work before they hit the chromers. :bash: Quote
