machg Posted January 31, 2008 Author Report Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) Mount mystery sort of solved; the cradle that the mounts sit on has theses little lips on them (see the arrow); the side that isn't sitting down all the way is sitting on the lip, the other side is past this lip. Does anyone know if the mounts are supposed to sit on the lips or all the way down? If it is supposed to sit all the way down, the solution is but a couple of hammer blows away.... Medicine_Man Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 Pretty sure both metal pieces of the mount are meant to be parallel to each other, I think it is bending the rubber mount to compensate for the angle of the engine mount.. Quote
machg Posted January 31, 2008 Author Report Posted January 31, 2008 I'll post in engine conversions thread to see if someone has pics of their 4age into T18 engine mounts. Quote

fozz Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Cheers, have you got any pics of your installation as a guide? nah man but give me a day or two and ill get it up read this http://www.davisengineering.net/swap.html it will help u alot also ur gonna need to convert to rack and pinion cause the sreering box fouls the 4a exhaust manifold or instead u could get custom extractors made around it Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 You really should change to rack and pinion steering, its the preferred option in my opinion. Quote
machg Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 You really should change to rack and pinion steering, its the preferred option in my opinion. I agree, because it is going to be a track car I will probably go with steering box initially and see how it goes. I have a series 2 rx7 which has a nearly identical steering setup and its around centre feel isn't as good as a rack and pinion set-up, once turned in to a corner, they are similar in feel, IMHO. If I decide to convert later on it might even help me do a rack and pinion conversion on the RX7, LOL. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 If I had to guess, I'd say you would just need to steal an ae71 cross-member and rack, and probably the steering column and its mounts. Id be shocked if it all just didn't more or less bolt in. If you intend to get a Quaife quick ratio rack or change anything at all there is lots of mods you can do with rack and pinion that I know of. Not sure how it all translates to a different box/linkages setup. I just adore the simplicity of rack and peanut also. May as well do it while shes in pieces. You may need an A series cross-member to make it all work with standard mounts and a 7age. This will more or less require the steering conversion anyhow. Quote
flat out Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 looks good, do you still have the 2t out of it and was it a 2tgeu? Quote

machg Posted February 2, 2008 Author Report Posted February 2, 2008 In a flash of inspiration I thought "I wonder if the T series rubber mounts would fit better?" - hey presto, perfect fit Sits on the little lip pieces Going with 1mm plate instead of 3mm for crossmember repairs Cheers, machg Quote

fozz Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 so I'm assuming that ur not gonna use an a series crossmember? does that also mean ur not gona do the rack and pinion conversion? just a word of advice do it once do it right ive had to many problems with mine trying to take short cuts good luck anyway Quote
