tas_ae71 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 If I had my way, the licensing laws would be SIGNIFICANTLY different to what they are now. Something similar to the motorbike licensing laws, and yet different. Personally I feel that RWD cars should be restricted to experienced drivers, or at a bare minimum, people who have undertaken a special advanced driving course. At least then they will have made an effort to learn more about how a car handles and they might be able to avoid an accident. Not just a one day course either. At least five days. A power-to-weight limit and a capacity limit wouldn't hurt either. No more than 4.0L and no more than 100kW/tonne (which is still HEAPS). EDIT: This would be for the first two-three years of having a licence, or until said advanced testing has been completed. All drivers should also have to pass a driving test every couple of years too. Every three-five years should do the trick. so you drive a wear a hat when you drive..? i bet you own a volvo... if not you should cause they are one of the safest car available.! i can tell you, you don't need 100kw/tonne to "hoon" as its called, i manage quite fine to do big skids with only a 4ac.. i don't have a locked diff either. i don't do it in residential areas where there are a lot of people, if i do chose to, i do it in non populated areas where there is little to no one to hit and only when there are no cars around. so yeah, most people who are on there provisional licences can't afford expensive cars. there are already laws in nsw(?) restricting the types of cars a p plater can drive. i don't think its just the p platers who are the "hoons" i think that the public has been brainwashed into that. i see plenty of fools who do stupid stuff like over take me (p-plater doing the correct speed) and come close to the car coming the other way. trucks that overtake when they shouldn't and have to pull in making me slow down or be side swiped to avoid the on coming car, that's also dangerous.. i remember i was on a bus one rainy day and a guy in some old ford ute came handing around a intersection and spun almost clipping the back of the bus. Jono Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 also...i think there should be NO such thing as a automatic licence  absolutely right. imagine how pissed off you would be in an emergency where you had to get to hospital and there were only manual cars around and only people with auto licences who could only drive auto? JiP Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 I think it should be mandatory. But some people just can't grasp the concept of manual. Usually women. Luckily for myself both of my parents were driving school instructors and I had the manual concept drilled into me. Quote
