greenmac80 Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 Hello everyone! Kind of new to this. have read threads but nothing seems to be able to help me. I have a 1980 KE55. currently installing sound system. I already have a themo fan and keyles entry, cd player 4 speakers and 1amp putting in 2subs and another amp soon. I wish to know if it is going to be necessary to upgrade the alternator?? Also does anyone know what alternators would fit?? Or does anyone know the cost of getting one rebuilt to 70 amps?? Any help would be great! Cheers, Luc Quote
Des Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 It will help. Cost me $200 to get mine rebuilt to 90-95 amps but it was around 70 stock. Quote

I read somwhere on this site that a KE corolla's electrical wiring is only good to 72amps? Does your alternator kepp up with demand? Quote

Cheers anyway the std alternator should be fine. the dull light is sometimes caused by a bad connection, try cleaning the battery terminals first and test again. sometimes caused by corrosion between the two alloy housings and the stator of the alternator. greenmac80 Posted November 26, 2007 Author Report Posted November 26, 2007 That is sometimes caused by a bad connection, try cleaning the battery terminals first and test again. hey, cheers for posting, i overhauled the engine.... and every thing else so the connections are fine.... so yeah the amps (as far as i know) will be drawing more power than the alternator will be putting back in. This is from factory specs! they are rated at 50ish amps. sooooooo :P Quote

My 4ac seca had a 80 amp alternator fitted so you should be able to find one easy at any wrecker. if not they can be rebuilt very easy by fitting the stator and rotor from a larger capacity Bosch alternator into your housings. late Ke55 also ran bosch alternators for the australian content to save on import tax..
