Redwarf Posted November 18, 2004 Author Report Posted November 18, 2004 and outragously expensive. The last outing cost me two tyres, a gearbox, a brakeline, and the need to repair my $700 extractors as one of the pipes had snapped. It's not a cheap exercise. The next round has already cost me $750 and I haven't left home yet. Quote
Teddy Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 $750 bucks... thats like 6 months work atm with me... Quote
Raynman Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 (edited) You should try rallying an outright capable 1940cc TE37. Brother's new car that he bought (car won the 2003 VRC 2wd championship) and in the first event in the car he destroyed three sets of rear tyres :insane: I think a little work is needed in the suspension department... Redwarf Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 (edited) I assume he's bought Brain Semmens old car?? What bits does that thing still have in it? It had EVERYTHING in the early 90's..... and ten years is a long long time for a rally car. By the way, it won the VCRS series with the 1600cc motor, it was never as competitive with the 2 litre........still darn quick though.... By the way, the purple car in the photo's is roughly the same spec, as is my new car which I'm rebuilding at the moment, although with only a 1600. Depending on the length of the rally, 3 sets of rears sound about right for that car. I budgeted two set for te last one, and I don't nearly have that much HP. P.S: welcome to the house of fun.... :insane: Edited December 10, 2004 by Redwarf Quote
Raynman Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Actually Andrew Vibert's corolla (typo had 1993, instead of 2003). I think it may actually have more in it than Brian's did (it does have an extra 41cc). Still need to make changes, more to do with different style of drivingIt is way too stiff - it is possibly the stiffest car I have come across (bitumen included). Another brother has a similar spec (1940cc but not quite as developed) rolla that uses 1 set of tyres an event. And when I say stuffed - no tread at all. We are thinking the rear wheels actually aren't gripping, just skidding over the top. The alleged rooster tails in 5th :doublebird: might have something to do with it. Still insanely fast for a rolla Family has three corolla rally cars - 2 TE37s (both 1940cc) and one 1300cc KE30. I used to drive the 1300 BTW - in a few months the 1300 will be for sale (class winning car, vey well sorted) Hey - good luck with the build of the new car. Looks nice. (You don't happen to know Mr Robinson(?) who is building a similar corolla?) Quote
Redwarf Posted December 13, 2004 Author Report Posted December 13, 2004 Brain's thing was the quickest thing going in the early 90's, and I still wonder what happened to that car. Never saw Viberts car, although I have heard it's very well sorted. Semmens also had the most amazing maintenance program on his car, too. He had two close boxes, and would swap them every six rallies. May I ask how much he paid for it? Rally cars are fun, but expensive. I think I saw your photo's on the Vic Rally website..... My KE25 is the quick car at the moment, 1360 cc P1 car, it annoys an awful lot of bigger cars! :doublebird: I haven't lived in Victoria for about 5 years, so I'm a bit behind the times with modern developments of who's driving what down there... Raynman Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Gotta love the giant killing little cars! Same with my brothers KE30 - it is a 1300cc engine and still manages to dominate the big guys at VCRS level. As a rookie he finished 3rd behind Will Orders (Evo 3) and Eli Evans (RS challenge car) in the first event of the year (Camcrusher VCRS1) Many top 3 stage times, even set two 5th fastest stage times with only 3 brake calippers! If he hadn't had a few mechanical problems he would have had an amazing year The photos would be the green rolla (car 6) at the Yakerboo. We looked at Semmens' old car, the guy who bought it wasn't sure if he would compete again so he held onto it (and did an event late this year). But looking at the two, the green corolla has some amazing stuff done to it. It even has rosejoints on the light bar (to give you an idea). The new owner of Semmens' car doesn't maintain it to the same level Quote
Redwarf Posted December 13, 2004 Author Report Posted December 13, 2004 (edited) Agreed. Semmens car should be well and truely rooted by now. It's led a really hard life that one. Is the Robinson guy the one that used to run a workshop in Clayton/ Oakliegh and was a Corolla wrecker? He used to be the only guy in Melbourne that dealt in pre-74 Corolla's.... For what it's worth, piccies of the Red Car... Edited December 13, 2004 by Redwarf Quote
