For a cars that are about 30 years old you have to expect some rust, but what is interesting is I have seen more rust free Ke30/Ke55 corollas than some other makes.

I have never seen rust free Nissan 200B.

seats 4 or 5

Corolla's were only 4 seaters. You'd have to get it mod plated to fir a fifth, not that you'd want to. Its far too squashy.

Hardtops are almost the rarest of all KE55's. The rarest KE55 would have to be the KE55P, otherwise known as the KE50. Behind that would be the KE38 panno then the KE55s (hardtop), tho I almost bought my fourth one a few weeks ago. So they do pop up from time to time. I think I might have an addiction.

Keep your eyes on ebay, you'd be surprised what turns up there. Of all the KE55's out there, if your trying to re-shell, look out for the update KE55s (square headlights). They came with alot of extras that the early ones didn't have access to. For example rear sway bar, FM radio, intermittant wipers, 5 speed (if lucky), removable headrests on the seats, square headlights and since they were the last made usually have none to little rust and have a dashpad that is intact.

Hope this helps...

Just not the '79 model ke55 (square headlights) which mine is and from what i can tell all it is is just a face lift of the early model '55

Yeah, mine is an KE55S which states on the compliance plate, And yes I did pick up my KE55S Hardtop from Ebay for 375$ haha. Had to travel a tiny bit further than expected but I didn't mind. Now I am thinking of just doing a simple 5k engine conversion to just get a little more power out of it. Though I really want to put a twincam motor into it and turbo etc at a later age because of the new laws etc which are shit.

Thanks for the more information guys!

No, the new laws are there to stop inexperienced people like you from putting big engines in small cars and killing themselves. You're only having to deal with what your brethren in other states have had for the last 20 years.

Oh, and the proof is there that the system works.

Seems like you are trying to sterotype me, though you really mistaken. Other members on here as well see the new law being stupid. Why not make the law that we have to buy with 2 air bags? Or ABS brakes? People can't even buy the new nice cars that come with a turbo and probably 7 airbags plus ABS? The new law has too many faults in it. It may stop rev heads from putting bigger engines in there cars, but there is too many people who will do what they want anyway.

Doesn't matter what engine you have, if you speed, you can crash, you can die. New laws may as well make people drive around on mopeds? You can even buy the older cars which have almost greater chance of killing yourself in an accident since there is no new technology on the vehicle. As I said, the new law has too many faults.

Also, I agree that I am inexperienced, doesn't mean I'm the one that will go side ways around every single corner I come across? Doesn't mean that I will constantly speed?

^^^^^^^^^^WinKE55..............Dude, you want to put a bigger motor in your car????????? Why????????? SO YOU CAN GO FASTER! You can only do the speed limit on the public roads, your k series in your rolla would be sufficient, its not yourself you have to worry about, its every other innocent person out there! Redwarf has a great point, the laws are there for a reason, I'm sure coppers hate cleaning up the mess of young inexperienced drivers who crash their modified cars and kill themselves, on the same token i can definatly see your point of view mate, when i first got my licence many many many years ago, i thought i was untouchable, thought my rolla was a race car and the bottom line i was a tosser behind the wheel.Personally I'm all for the laws, young people need to learn how to drive first and have a few years experience behind the wheel before thinking of engine transplants, although thats only my 2 cents worth,

cheers phatke30!

The new law isn't stupid.

The new laws work.

It's a proven statistical fact in other states.

Just because you're effected by them doesn't mean they're stupid.

People will always do whqat they want, but it goes a long way to protecting young inexperienced (oooh hang on, I have twelve months driving experience, I'm going to buy myself a Silvia because I'm the best!) drivers effectively from themselves.

Did you know that 18 year old male drivers are 4 times more likely to die in a motor vehicle accident than the equivilent female driver? Did you know that 347 18 year old drivers have been killed on Australian roads in the last 10 years as opposed to 113 40 year olds? (All statistics are available on Federal government web sites....). Anything that contributes to the lessening of this carnage is only going to be good thing.

Have you ever been at an accident and seen an emergency services worker turn up to find his 19 year old son in the car dead? It's not pretty. And it's not good.

You may not drive everywhere sideways, but it's the inherent male testosterone driven- I'm going to show off to my mates- oh look a wet road, watch this for fancy driving attitude that is contributing as well to the stastics. Okay the laws are a bit sucky, and we also know that education should also play a major part in the overall solution. But lets face it, it's three years out of your driving life. It's not the end of the world.

I've spent a large part of the last few months standing in parched paddocks in the depths of country Queensland teaching young, inexperienced drivers basic defensive driving techniques. Do you know that I can point out to you the ones that are going to have a good sized accident in the not too distant future? They're generally the ones that think they already know everything and that they know better.

This is an argument that you're not going to win with me. I work with it every day, and I know pretty much exactly what you don't know.

So, as Uncle Chop-Chop says, Harden The f@$k Up.

I learnt to drive in a 351 XY Falcon....and I drove that for the first 3 years of holding my license....I never crashed it, and got one speeding ticket in those 3 years. After that I got my yellow coupe, and got 21 speeding fines in 3 years...all with a 4K. Not all P platers are hoons...Maybe he wants to put a bigger engine in so he doesn't have to crawl up hills on the highway at 35km/h....or maybe he would like the tunability and better fuel consumption a 4AGE would provide?

The laws are a little excessive I feel, as was already stated, people will do what they want anyway, the last massive P plater accident I saw on the news was a guy who took his dads car while his dad was away on holidays. So the law only stops the honest people anyway.

You can get an unhealthy 4K to 160-170 km/h if you try really hard (usually with a hill involved) so it's not going to stop hoons from driving like idiots and wrapping themselves around a tree.

I agree with the idea of the law, I just think they maybe need to find a better way to try and slow hoons down.

I'm not trying to make it sound like an arguement, though I know my last post seemed. I never said the new laws wouldn't work, because I know that it would have a less chance of killing yourself.

If you wanted to know why I want to transplant an engine is to take it to Willowbank for a while untill I am legally able to drive it and so I have 3-4 years under my belt of driving and lessons. I never thought or think I am untouchable. Seems to be one of the most used sentance I've always heard when parents are trying to get through to there kids etc. I also understand there is a high increase of crashes with P platers, though not all of P platers are hoons.

I can also see the point where you are coming from Redwarf, though there going to try and stop/decrease hoons they maybe should of added safety features as well in there list of the new laws.

Also, I've even heard people grinding off engine numbers and putting there old ones on the new engine? Such as the K series engine for a good example. Some peoples thoughts are "More rules, the more I rebel against them" attitude etc

As I said, I'm not here to create an arguement.

extra safety features certainly don't stop hooning, all that would do is treat the final result, rather than the cause of the problem.

I'm in sales, so I spend alot of time on the road. You would not believe the amount of P platers, both red and green, that pass you, as if you were standing still, the car loaded up with mates, in all weather conditions.

Many are a ticking time bomb. As far as I'm concerned, the laws are fine, probably still not enough, but certainly pointing in the right direction.
