LewyMan Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) On my way to work yesterday morning, the exhaust note seemed to be louder than normal, so I turned off the stereo, and it sounded cool! I checked it later that day, and the joint between the tailpipe and rear muffler behind the axle had completely snapped off! I'm rapt, finally have a decent note and some mad bubbling on the over-run, all for zilch! :D Now, as far as I know, it is illegal to have an exhaust system which ends in front of the rear axle, so this should be legal, right? It isn't very loud, I'm 95% sure it's below legal dB limit.... Edited November 21, 2007 by LewyMan Quote
irokin Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Now, as far as I know, it is illegal to have an exhaust system which ends in front of the rear axle, so this should be legal, right? In Queensland its illegal. The exhaust outlet must extend at least 40mm beyondthe furthermost outboard or rearmost joint of the floor pan that is not continuously welded or permanently sealed which could permit direct access of exhaust gases to the passenger compartment, but not beyond the perimeter of the vehicle when viewed in plan. Just go to an exhaust shop and get them to weld on a straight bit of pipe. I'll cost maybe $20... Quote
aidaniel[RL] Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 don't fix it lol ... if it sound cool and its not obvious from behind the car leave it Quote
anastasios Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 you might be losing power though Quote
tojo2 Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 The reason the exhaust gasses should come out that far back is to prevent them from coming into the car, causing you to fall asleep ,and becoming... well kind of dangerous in traffic :D Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I'm pretty sure in ACT, the exhaust has to actually exit the underside of the car, and has to be at least a foot further back than the back door. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Its the same deal with side pipes. The must be at least 50cm IIRC, "...behind the rear most, opening window." Quote
driftn70 Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 in ACT the exhaust must exit from the bodywork. so it has to go all the way to the back. can't dump at the diff. a side exhaust must exit no further in thean the sill and be a certain distance back from the furthest back opening door/window. Clapped out Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Pppppffffftttttt! if you get pulled over the fine will probably cost the amount of a new exhaust, ................shit, just buy a new exhaust buddy! Quote
LewyMan Posted November 22, 2007 Author Report Posted November 22, 2007 ^^ True, but would that entail points as well? I've only 2 left :hmm: I would like to leave it as is, because the tailpipe is still hanging there. Just this arvo comin home, a copper was following me for a bit, as usual I packed my dacks, but he just swerved around me, no indicator, no flashy lights, speeding.... :D Still, I'm glad he didn't take an interest in me. Of course I backed off my normal driving style to reduce noise, because it is loudest at 2-2.5 grand. Would a straight or enlarged pipe still keep the same sound as it is? I'm not gonna buy a cannon or anything ridiculous like that. I want to spend as little as possible, if not, nothing. Quote
Clapped out Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 but would that entail points as well........... Certainly would, defective vehicle fines do! Quote
LewyMan Posted November 22, 2007 Author Report Posted November 22, 2007 (edited) Ohhh shit *bites nails nervously* So i spose going on a cruise with CruisingBrisbane tonight could jeopardise my current points? (although there's no way the rolla is roadworthy anyway) Edited November 22, 2007 by LewyMan Quote
