Clapped out Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 the switching side of a relay needs very little voltage to close the circuit. so you shouldnt have any problems with starting/running etc. id also be running a seperate switch to either send power/earth it out incase of circuit failure. ill post up a picture of my setup when i work out how to use photoshop. i actually use ign feed off the coil also :lolcry: On ke30s there are 2 12v feed lines to the coils. One comes from "start" on ignition switch and goes directly to primary side of coil. The other one comes from "ig" on ignitonswitch and goes via the coil resistor and becomes 8v on the coil primary. This is why you get higher voltage on coil while starting. Take a look at your voltage regulator. I think there is a connection called "ig" on it . You can use this to feed your fan relay. Its fused aswell, so better than the coil feed. Would be interesting to see the el.drawing of the ke15... My ke16 had a davies craig thermo fan on it when I go it. It had the the ignition feed wired from the coil to the relay. It was running an electronic dizzy (with bosch transistor coil) and never had any starting issues whatsoever. The power draw to feed the thermo relay was negligable, as I measured the spark voltage at 30,000 volts at idle with and without the fan running. Compare that to my ke15 with an echlin gx80 sports coil, jaycar HEI and scorcher points dizzy at 25,000 volts. KE1x cars run non-ballast coils. I'm in the same boat, ive never had a drama. Its entirely up to you cameron in which you decide, at least this thread has some very good points, ideas and opinions! cheers phatke30! Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 (edited) HAHAH I know MANY people who don't run thematic switches..LOL I have the last laugh when they leave it on for the day while were in work..LOL But I decided how my loom for it will run started crimping and conduit-ing it tonight between study. The relay +12V switching signal wire I left "free at the base of the relay holder (These are gold all cars should use them) So if I change my mind on the feed for this wire I can extend it or shorten it. But I am leaning towards the IG coil + now as I ALWAYS have spare fuses in car as you never know and wire I'm sure I could find some foil to cover till RACQ can save me if it blows..lol As for the schematic for the KE1X cars Ill scan it ASAP so you can all see what I am rambling about. Also horns I was thinking if I jumped the power here I would need to hold my horn "on" to complete the circuit to let power flow so power could then switch my relay. Now driving with the horn on 24/7 don't think will be a winner..LOL Had to be said. Also the idea about the regulator in the KE30 is a great idea. Might use this as a neater feed in my current KE30 daily for my misc electronic items :lolcry: Cheers Cameorn. PS. Good info as always Felix. Also other guys this info is top stuff  Edited November 19, 2007 by camerondownunder88 Quote
