KE70-from-mt-panorama Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Hey all I am competing in the Supersprint at Mt Panorama on the 1st of december and i wont have my 4age rebuilt in time, so i will be running standard 4ac. So i was wondering can you remove any emissions gear for extra power, and also what can you do to the 4ac to get some cheap power. I'm doing the usual stuff like, service, new plugs/leads and octane booster in the fuel, weight reduction and also removal of dodgy power draining heater gear. But what else can go so i can get more power out of the unopened engine. people are saying carbs and extractors but with the 4age going in soon its really pointless to me. The car is not registered and never will be so any gear removed for cheap power doesnt matter. I have read this topic but to little gain. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...ic=1974&hl= Also Anyone in the bathurst area on the 1st and 2nd of december are welcome to come and watch the event. Supersprint saturday and Mountain Straight hillclimb Sunday. I am only competing in Supersprint as entries are low for hillclimb and i don't want to trust the old 4ac to pull me up the hill in a decent time. Cheers Jake Quote
Jason Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I don't get how the heater can drain power.... its just a radiator, unless your talking about weight. Enlighten me :) Quote
tas_ae71 Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) i think he mean the hot air pipe to the air box. ah, remove the filter, unbolt the rear half of the exhaust.... get some bendy pipe and make some induction from the front into the stock air box (without filter). if your worried about bugs and stuff add some mesh. as far as emissions gear i removed mine when i put a weber carb on. there is a pipe that goes from the exhaust manifold around to the side of the intake manifold, i can only assume that this one adds exhaust gas into the intake, both of mine where totally gummed up so they weren't doing anything anyway. if your really keen you could pull the manifolds of and take the flap put of the exhaust manifold that restrics the flow.. i CBF going to that much effort personally. check the plugs, if its running properly don't worry about replacing the leads, advance the timing to at least 15degrees BTDC (8 degrees is std i think). maybe change the oil and flush the radiator/fill with coolant if it hasn't been done recently. you can probaly get a weber (32/36) carb and adaptor plate for 100-150 for a used one. Doesn't matter if it leaks a little air or the jets are worn/too big because you will just be holding it flat. a carb should add upto 10hp, mine works really well with the bigger exhaust, the complement each other if you know what i mean. edit: keep your heater, for additional cooling if necessary. also a electric thermo fan will add slightly more power but will mainly improve the response. it can also be used when you drop the 4ag in. KE70-from-mt-panorama Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 Cheers. That will be helpful. The removal of the heater was to reduce the weight. Anything that can be taken off it will be, some already has. And if my sister decides to part out her st162 celica ill be taking the radiator out of that with the twin thermo's. And to save another topic, Can someone explain to me why one of my 4ac's uses a v07 oil filter and the other 4ac uses a v012 oil filter. The v012 is on the automatic one and the v07 is on the manual. It confuses me and my mate thats helping. Quote
irokin Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 *Moved* - Please post mechanical related questions in the mechanical forums in future. Thanks. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 both are interchangeable, also interchangeable with 4ag... i have the larger type filter but it had the smaller type when i got it. this may also help you: http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/board/in...showtopic=21443 seriously, for how much it costs a weber is defiantly worth every penny. your spending maybe a hundred or more on basic maintenance which is good but yeah wont really make any more power unless its not running properly now. KE70-from-mt-panorama Posted November 15, 2007 Author Report Posted November 15, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the link. Seen that before when i bought the street commodores magazine with it in it. I would go the webers but i find it hard to come across them at all, let alone cheap. But if i found some with adaptor plate i would buy them because i could resell them when I'm done with the old 4ac anyways. If i can find some in time then it should be good. My mate still thinks that we should get the die grinder and port the head, but i don't like that idea too much even though i have the 4age. What do you all think of that? We did the servicing today cleaned out the carby, new plugs and leads, new fuel filter, new diff oil etc, she responds sooo much better now. Cheers for the idea's Edited November 15, 2007 by KE70-from-mt-panorama Quote
