i have a 70 ke 20 and it has a 3k with a blown head gaskit, i have a 3k with burnt rings and a 4k of unknown condition(fine apparently) I'm wondering what i should put in or if i should just fix the 3k. i have an idea of what i have to do to change the motor and a couple of mates who know what there doing. i just need to know if i need to change parts on the 4k to put it in and if that would be to costly, ill soon have mounts. or should i just change the gaskit and get the head machined on the 3k. or change the gaskit and then swap heads with the other 3k. I'm pretty confused ive got 1200 to get it going strong any ideas? much appreciation, woody

the bell housing is the same on a 3k and 4k. i know the 3k flywheel bolts on the 4k motor.. which means you could still use the same trans. there isnt much wait difference between the flywheels so it shouldnt put any strain on your new motor.

I don't believe its that hard, I would go for the 5k myself although the 4k in the ke20 was a good laugh.

For 1200 you should be able to getone or even rebuild a nice one. If you need a 4k that just needs a head , or you are looking for a 5k to rebuild ,let me know ,there might be bits in the shed.

you'll be able to find my email address in my profile.

Good Luck, Ben.

I have a '74 KE20, I want more power. There was plenty of talk of 3k swapping with 4k with ease. I was wondering f anyone knows what thinks I would need to modify to put a 5k in it?

to put a 5k in a ke20, you'll need a 5k and a ke20... and whatever tools you use to take the old engine out and put the 5k in.
