Nitephyre Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 f@$kED UP!. it's making this god awful scraping noise when i brake. SO, since it's happened, i'll probably get all my pads replaced, and i might need that disc (i think it's disc) machined to get the scratches that are most likely on it now. What's a GOOD, but EASY ON THE WALLET brand of pads, with nice stopping power? f@$king cars, i dunno. i'm expecting this to cost me around $500 at least, since i'll need to get my mechanic to do it, plus cost of pads, plus machining if needed... *mumbles* Quote
trdcamrypride Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 yeah cars can tend to do that to you but it just gets annoying at times when you are in say financial difficulty. it really shits me off some times. grrr. Quote
irokin Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 Bendix Performax. Mine were VN Rears and cost $56. Stop like no other pad Ive tried and I have personally TRIED to make them fade coming down Mt Coot-tha to no avail. They are however hard on the rotor because they are metalic. Bendix standards are OK. I used the old asbestos type. They faded coming down Mt Coot-tha but they are MUCH nicer to the rotors. Quote
demuire Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 I personally like Race Brakes RB74. They can make them to suit any car too, you just need to supply a set of the original pads. Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 do either of those pads need to heat up much before they start working? i'm using ferodo zeroes at the moment, because doing hillclimbs at grafton i need decent stopping power about 25 seconds after my wheels start turning. i've heard some people say for quick braking without heating time, use the cheapest shittiest pad you can find (whilst they do sell ferodos at supercheap, they just happened to be in the ke70 calipers i have), especially if you have slotted rotors (which is on the list at some point) Quote
demuire Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 Mine seem to work pretty well cold. They do get better as they heat up, but they work well enough cold. Quote
irokin Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 the performax need a little bit of heat in them before you get good braking. But we're not talking huge amounts of heat. Quote
mumblezzz Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 In my experience EBC Green Stuff is total Arse. I was loosing pedal feel after about the 4th corner going down springbrook and were totally fried after a few more hard stops. This is using RA65 discs and calipers in a close to 900kg car. I found my cheap $60 bendix advance were better on shitty stock rotors. Quote
irokin Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Just FYI RA65 discs are vented I think bendix has changed the name of performax to advanced. I just got what stock repco had left over. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 25, 2004 Author Report Posted October 25, 2004 nick, me never having changed brakes before and not having equipment/time and needing the damn car happened to DIY  Quote
