Ebc Brake Pads Pricing

I'm in the middle of the Corona strut upgrade and am chasing around places for some EBC green stuff brake pads to suit series 4/5 RX7's.

 

Most places i went to don't stock them nor do they deal with EBC. Repco (last resort) would have to make calls etc and were not much help at all.

Autobarn (very last resort) quoted $250 for the fronts alone.

 

Is this the going price, or does anyone have any contacts to get them cheaper.

 

I'm keen to give these pads a try, to at least decide for myself whether they are good value (but $250 is pretty far fetched). Second option that looks inviting is the new Bendix Race Pad series.

Racebrakes pads like Demuire used were my first option, but 'every' place i went to had never heard of them. That includes the major stores listed above. "What, is that the name of the brand"?

 

So who's knows what price EBC Greenstuff are normally, and who can get me a cheaper pair than $250? I'll make it worth your while.

Try Better Brakes in Cheltnam they should be a fair bit cheaper then repco etc

Whoa for $250 you'd be better off with Ferodo DS2500s. I use ferodos on the front and racebrakes RB74s in the rear of my silvia. The Ferodos are phenominal (~$245) and the RB74s are very decent for the price (~$145). The RB74s are far dustier than the Ferodos and tend to eat the rotors...but certainly no worse than EBC pads. The ferodos have exceptionally good friction co-efficent even when cold but even better when hot! I feel quite comfortable driving with them on the street (as opposed to my endless CCX pads that almost caused an accident...). I don't think I would ever consider a bendix brake pad ever again. They've burned me too many times now.

 

I dunno where you could go in melbourne but I get my pads through Mercury motorsport in Brisbane.

Funny you should ask, as I've only just done the s4/5 pad search like 2 weeks ago!!

 

I priced some green stuff pads too at bursons, as they're also not a dealer they quoted me $270.

I could also get Bendix ultimates for $109.

 

After doing a little research, and asking a few people of there opinions of both I ended up going with the bendix. Reasons:

The green stuff pads really do need to be warmed up a bit to work properly, and if your say cruising on a highway and need to stop suddenly you can find yourself with not quite as much brakes as you'd want! :bash: From most reports I got, the bendix's work fine! and not really too far behind a green stuff at temperature!

So the conclusion I came to was that for what this car will be used for (my rx4), which is basically a comfortable 4 door cruiser that will have some sporting ability with the occasional strip or club day visit, that the Green stuff pad was not worth over 2.5 times of the bendix eqiv. :dance:

 

Just my 2c.

 

By the way, there are a few types of ECB compounds:

Black - general

Green - High performance street

Yellow - Track only

Red - Street/track

Well i called up the place mentioned above. He has set aside a set of Greenstuff under his counter for me. $140 pair. Thats $120 cheaper than Autobarn....

 

I use Bendix General CT in both my cars currently. Good enough for the street, but after a few quick stops they are pretty much cooked. So i'm branching out and trying new things. I'll be buying the Greenstuff and giving them a chance. If I don't feel comfortable with them, I'll change over the Racebrakes RB74's.

Autobarn tried to sell me some $40 Ferrodo's...."Yeah, I'm asking about EBC and Racebrakes. You think i am interested in $40 Pads"!

I guess Ferrodo have upper level pads too considering what Irokin mentioned above?

 

EDIT* Anyone know what the EBC Black range are like? Just a pad....Or pretty decent for a low end of the range pad.

Racebrakes in Melbourne is the place you're looking for, they actually make their own. They also sell EBC pads, and are the Australian distributor for them I believe. Their number is 03 9326 6088 or go to racebrakes.com.au

I picked up the pads a few mins ago, and dropped off the Land Cruiser calipers to be reco'd. So its confirmed, you can get greenstuff for at least $140. Nearly half the price of autobarn. I'm sure trade price would be even cheaper too.

How badly do they chew out the rotors?

The sales bloke actually recommended using EBC reds.......until he realised the RX7 pads werent actually going onto an RX7. He uses Reds on heavier cars....even on the street.

Yeah i went there this arvo. As for the moustache...can't say i noticed anything out of the ordinary. I'll be picking up my calipers later this week, so i'll keep an eye out for it. :evil:
