demuire Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Here is something I found, thought some of you might like to see it: Quote
irokin Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 I spy with my little eye something beginning with drysump..err I mean D Quote
demuire Posted October 20, 2004 Author Report Posted October 20, 2004 I also noticed they've lenghtened the rear shackles on the TE37's leaf springs to counter the roll understeer. I'd like to do that with my car, but haven't been able to find any shackles of the correct size and length etc to fit the car yet... Quote
mumblezzz Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 See thats what the 15 year rule should be used for. More TE27s less cefiros and r32s. Quote
demuire Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 Problem is it looks like the Japanese really want their old school cars back, that's why they're offloading all their "boring" cars to us  Quote
demuire Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 Hmm, by "old school" I meant KE10, TE27 etc. AE86's are still being offloaded from Japan in fairly high numbers, be it in complete cars or in parts Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 *ejaculate* seriously te27s are nice but would you want to pay 10 grand for something you'd be scared to drive on the road because it's so rare? thought not i like the catch can on that 27, i wonder if the battery was over there stock? mine's on the drivers' side. you can make your own leaf shackles, just make sure they're strong and weld a nut onto the other side so they stay straight. aaron willis on oldcorollas mentioned something about the ones he had on his te51 within the last 7 days Quote
demuire Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 Yes I suppose I could make my own... Need to get some steel and some high tensile bolts and get the bolts welded in so that they don't move. Haven't been on oldcorollas for a bit, might have a squiz tonight maybe. Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 The shackles at the rear of the car must be either built to avoid flex, like the stock ones on my old TE51 - the bolts, which are welded to one side, have a shoulder on the other end so that the other side must fit flat and square against them when the nuts are tight. If yours are not the same or have been changed for aftermarket ones (longer to correct roll steer, etc) you might want to fix that. I fitted long shackles to my TE51 to lower the rear eye, which eliminates rear roll understeer (i.e. keeps the rear axle from pointing inside the curve when the body rolls). Unfortunately the longer shackles needed modifying to stiffen them up. They were just two plates with holes in them for plain bolts to pas through. Nothing to prevent them from flexing around. Quote
demuire Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 A "shoulder"? I do know about the flexing, hence must weld bolt to the plate to make it stay solid. I'd prefer to get shackles from another car (as in factory shackles), but if I can't find anything I might make something up. Will have to decide fairly soon though, before the car comes back from Nambour, cause it's pretty much going straight to Pedders after that to get the rear suspension sorted out. It's far too low at the moment, I've got less than 15mm of bump... Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 seriously te27s are nice but would you want to pay 10 grand for something you'd be scared to drive on the road because it's so rare? thought not heh jamie, I do that every day. Even though i only paid $3850 for my car, most importers offload them for 10,11k i've only seen 3 in brisbane, and only one other registered. was cool.. i'm driving towards the city, and i spy rather familiar tail lights.. hoon up and i'm like OMGWTFBBQ! it's another schmick black Century.. the guy driving it was just as surprised as me.. so from kedron park hotel into roma st we cruised together. was awesome. but also, damn them TE's are horn  Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 you're obviously not that scared to drive the century round, because you do, and that's cool  but if i owned a te27 i may as well have a suitcase of money sitting in a garage that i trailered everywhere, because that's where the car would stay as well Quote
Redwarf Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 (edited) Front look a bit different from normal? Mmmmm TE37.... http://www.vicrally.com.au/displayphotos.php Bugger, linky no worky properly..... search for the name "Vibert" Edited October 22, 2004 by Redwarf Quote

Hell, i don't even have comprehensive for it yet... silly, but eh, don't have the money :) Quote
