Shadex Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Hey all, I recently got a 4AC in my KE70.. and the second cylinder from the front keeps stopping after driving it for about 2 hours.. if u take the spark plug out ( its black as ) clean it up.. put it back.. runs on 4 again and runs normal.. and also.. in my other rolla i have a locker.. and ive got one in this also.. and my other one made this real grinding noise.. it sounded like it was coming from the diff but someone said it could be the wheel bearings.. but anyhow i was messing around today and i was in the middle of no where... then it started to make the same noise as my other one.. but alot louder and its only in 3rd and 4th that u can hear it, were as in my other one you could hear it in any gear. Teddy Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 1) a) Check spark plug lead going from dizzy to no.2 cyl. Do a continuity check at least; -> google that if your unsure how to do it. b) i can't imagine the inlet manifold would be blocked enough, to reduce air getting in into JUST no 2. Check all the other plugs. Do your timing while your there, check points gap. 2) Wheel bearing noise is like wur-ing noise coming from the rear 1/2 of vehicle. Its like a hum that goes and comes back almost instantly, faster you go, the more times this noise happens. Wheel bearings are not hard to replace, if you know what your doing. You need a hydraulic press. 3) Noise in 3 and 4, no other gear, With that amount of info, possibly bearing / teeth noise from gearbox. don't worry about it, if its not that bad. :) 4) Quote
tas_ae71 Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 diff whines are very common and if its the diff it will make a louder noise at diffrent speeds for example mine is worst from 60-90kms 90 or more and it goes quiet. as for the plug, if its a little old you may want to buy a new set, gap them properly and wack in some fuel cleaner. i kept on getting fould plugs, even try going to a hotter plug on the cylinders that are fouling i.e no 2. Shadex Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 I did buy a new plug for it and put that in but it still did it, i got a lead but it doesn't fit my dizzy, so.. ill try get another one today :) But other then that ill get some fuel cleaner to try stop all the smoke, but wouldnt it be blowing smoke if its not tuned right? or the fuels running to rich? tas_ae71 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) if its black smoke, its rich. blue smoke is oil smoke which could indicate worn rings or valve seals. unfortunately a stock carb cannot be tuned to correct this. advance the timing if its too rich, this will help with burning more of the fuel. 15degrees BTDC is usually quite safe and if its very rich then you wouldnt have any problems, you need a timing light though.
