Clapped out Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 (edited) hey guys i was just wondering if anyone knows what sorta struts will fit straight into the normal stud holes in a ke55 corolla because i need to upgrade to bigger brakes and just want to know everyones opinion! Not having a go at you buddy, although id be putting this thread in general mechanical or automotive discussion first, finding out exactly what would suit your application and price range, there are a few options out there, just do a quick search and see what other people have done/used, (only a suggestion) cheers phatke30! Redwarf Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 Moved, although I should lock it as this has been done to death. FWIW, I've got VT 2 spots, and Evo1 rotors that are going on. Fabrication required. Search, and have a look at anything by Demuire, he's done the Pug/Cruiser conversion. Quote

HEKTIC Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 t-3 86 coilover struts $1,050au (from Kyouteki shipped to your door) coilover info: http://www.technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=658 with the willwood big brake kit (4spots) $1060 (from Kyouteki shipped to your door) brake info: http://www.technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=329 with that setup i can't see you having any problems with handling or stopping! chuck in some sway bars (Whiteline), better rear shocks (kyb, 2nd hand trd's Kyouteki can help you with this also) and leafs (reset or something) and some camber tops in the front for good measure (not sure if 86 fit without slotting, but s13 camber tops will fit if you slot each hole about 1mm according to nickZ) with all of that your 55 will be one of the nicest handling in Tassie, if not Australia! ancullen Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 Moved, although I should lock it as this has been done to death. FWIW, I've got VT 2 spots, and Evo1 rotors that are going on. Fabrication required. Search, and have a look at anything by Demuire, he's done the Pug/Cruiser conversion. Are you sure that's going to work Rob? VT front discs have a 28mm standard thickness, and a minimum thickness of 25mm (when machined down to remove scratches and uneven wear). So the caliper is going to have enough range to cover those thicknesses. The Evo discs however have a standard thickness of 24mm and minimum thickness of 22.4mm. Wouldn't this be pushing the VT calipers too far? The setup I'm going to use is S4 RX7 four-piston calipers with new Mini front rotors. The only issue with the Mini rotors is that the stud pattern is 4x100, so they'll have to be redrilled to 4x114.3. Quote
anastasios Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 what about using adams s13 strut legs? Quote
ancullen Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Who's using S13 strut legs??? And what's the benefit? Quote
irokin Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Instant bolt on big brakes and bigger diameter shocks (i.e. better sized valving). Basic bolt on brake run down: 280mm standard SR20DET single piston 280mm 4 spot off S14/15 DET/Z32 etc 296mm alloy 4 spots off R32 non-vspec GTR 324mm Brembo 4 spots (vspec R32 GTR onwards) *insert lots of aftermarket bolt on kits* 360mm AP Racing 8 spot monsters (sexiest calipers ever!) All completely bolt on. (Except you have to drill the holes out a little for the brembos and may have to redrill to 4 stud...) Quote
ancullen Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Okay, the benefits are HUGE. But how much other stuff do you have to adapt to make the S13 strut leg fit (eg. steering arms, LCA's, etc)? Quote
curly Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 (edited) i used MX63 struts, use datsun 1600 1in lower king springs. you have to die grind the front ball joint bolt hole a bees dick and move the brake hose bracket, so for $200 you get bigger ventilated discs bigger stub heavier strut body heavier shaft and std stud pattern Edited October 10, 2007 by curly Quote
VHR32 Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Using S13 gear on Toyotas gives you massive bump steer problems. For a good brake converison, use series 4 or 5 RX7 calipers and some new Mini discs. VT calipers will be hopeless unless you have a massive master cylinder to fill the 2 BIG pistons. These also should be used with 28mm wide discs, you might get away with using 26mm but no less. Quote
anastasios Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 it does not give you massive bumpsteer problems adam has researched his strut legs and builds them for you custom, go on hachiroku.com for more info Quote
