7om Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Me and a friend recently bought a 4 door KE70. have been reading this forum and its fkn awesome, probably the most informative car forum on the net to date. :) well anyways down to buisness. The Car is in pretty good condition, and today we decided to give it a service. changed battery, most fluids, filters, battery and so on.. white smoke has been emitting from where the sparkplugs go in, like enough to make concern. we suspect that its either: -worn sparkplugs -head gasket about to depart -engine running too lean (checked carby and its set ok) -or that the engine is simply getting old, and a possibility of oil mixing with petrol and burning off whitish smoke. any help at all much appreciated Quote
tas_ae71 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 did you spill oil when you where filling the motor back up..? if your servicing it you may as well chuck some new plugs in, remember to gap the correctly too, i wouldnt think this is problem. have you checked it again since you serviced it..? is it possible that you spilled, water, coolant so some other fluid in a hot place? 7om Posted October 3, 2007 Author Report Posted October 3, 2007 tas ae71- it is possible that we spilled water/some oil durign servicing, but the white smoke is clearly coming from where the sparkplugs are housed. I tihnk new sparkies might fix it though :) Quote
tas_ae71 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 ok well it wont hurt to change them. not like they are expensive time and its really just general maintenance. Quote
HRV-00S Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Might be worth checking the metal bucket things that the spark plugs sit in. If there bent out of shape they may not be sealing properly Quote
kermit55 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 post up some pics of this ke70.... if you can't figure out your problem  its not worth spending your money and fixing the 4k-c unless its minor. its probably cheaper to buy a 4k than fix one lol... or just go 4age :hmm: oh well good luck to you while you step into the wild crazy world of rolla's Quote

7om Posted October 4, 2007 Author Report Posted October 4, 2007 thanks for all the positive feedback. the engine is simply a temp one before we bolt in a 4age. Sbox- the smoke was coming out before the service, but only started up like a few days ago. KE30 KE35 KE 55- we checked and used the correct oil for the motor, and if it is blowby, its one Fvck load of blow by! HRV-00S- i checked them and they were looking a bit worse for wear, it may be that -We also want to know what the deal is with getting registration with a KE70 with a 4AGE transplant? This keeping in mind its a 1981 ke70 and hasnt had registration since 2004. Quote
rolla83 Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 Its a shame that down south its quite strict, the laws are a major reason the older cars are getting put off the road. In the N.T we love our older cars, theres Corollas and Dattos etc everywhere, good luck with getting ures on the road and keep at it, every extra carby car on the road is a bonus I reckon, and don't run that flash lube, I ran it in my KE35 (3K) and ended up with hard starting and a wet pipe after a couple months (using correct amount). I have a KE70 in a shipping container that I'll re-register in about 5 years providing they don't introduce some new law.... Quote
KE30_KE35_KE55 Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 (edited) If the vehicle is Auto and fitted with a trimatic also check the modulator on the back of the transmission , the diaphragms split and trans fluid gets sucked up the vacuum line. :y: Edited October 8, 2007 by KE30_KE35_KE55 Quote
