kangaroosa Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 I have never had Koni's, so i can't vouch for them myself. I'm sure they are great, but whether you will get the most out of them for everyday driving on the roads......well i'm not so convinced on that. For that reason alone I have stuck with KYB's as you can get them for $410 for all 4. Are the Koni's short stroke? If they can be picked up for that price and are short stroke, then i may invest in some for my Corolla next time I need new struts. Quote
love ke70 Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 short enough to keep my lowered king springs captive Quote
tas_ae71 Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 (edited) yes kyb is available in short stroke front and rear. yes it is a money thing when it comes to using kyb's, i would agree from reports that koni's are far superior to kyb. kyb in my opinion are a entry base lever into perfomance shocks, which for alot of people are enough for the street driving because they arnt that serious about it. i myself would love to try some high end shocks, koni yellows, bilsteins etc. i aim to have some very high quality shock such as these in the future. Andrew, do you know what sort of rate the kings are? also how much did the hight drop by? i love how low my car is wih the new springs but what i don't like is the total lack of stroke they have :no2: I'm beginning to think i may have to go coilovers to keep the stroke that i want. with i really wanted to keep standard type sprinter struts. another option i had in mind was to lower the spring perch but this also has the problem with safety (which is belive it ot not is very high on my list of priorities). it would require alot of reinforcing but it would allow me to keep my car low with stroke in the suspension :P Edited September 21, 2007 by tas_ae71 Quote
Rollaboy2608 Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 i doubt that you, tas ae71, have driven a corolla with fully replaced standard suspension. i think you would find it is much nicer than you imagine. everything is probably 20 years minimum old. i, for example. was driving on shocks that were 400,000 km old. Amen to that... I stress again that the manufacturers spend BILLIONS on development and know what is safe, and what isnt. There is a difference between street and track. Also Koni's are a fantastic option for a good, middle of the range, shock absorber Quote
love ke70 Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 (edited) this was for the rears, i run coilovers in the front, and they are a progressive spring. from memory they were 260-280 which is 4.6 kg to 5kg. ill do some research and find out for you. love ke70 Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 http://winterpalace.customer.netspace.net.au/ae86-sus.html and search for King KTRL-34/270 thats the lowered rear for a ke70. king spring p/n is KTRL-34 I'm guessing the /270 on that website implies the pound per foot reading. and they have just picked the centre, as i assure you they are progressive, this helps to keep the spring captive. thats the ride height i was getting with them in the rear, no fuel tank but a LPG tank in the boot. thats on 225/50R15, so theyre a little taller than standard tyres. tas_ae71 Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 so are the kings custom? or do they make coilover springs? i asume thet they are the ones that use the shock mounts, how much did you have to renforce it? Quote
love ke70 Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 in the rear they are just replacement springs man. in the front is a totally different setup, not using kings Quote
tas_ae71 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 replacement springs for coilovers? a mate of mine has just brough some 86 front coilies and the have 6kg springs. Quote
love ke70 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 mate, wtf a ke70 doesnt have coil overs in the rear. they are REPLACEMENT lowered springs. for a stock standard setup. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 this was for the rears, i run coilovers in the rear, and they are a progressive spring.from memory they were 260-280 which is 4.6 kg to 5kg. ill do some research and find out for you. i was refuring referring to this^^ where you talking about another car? coilover converion conversion can be done to ke70 :P Spelling fairy's back from a lengthy holiday. love ke70 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 that would be my mistake. i meant i run coilovers in the front and standard coils in the rear. hence the confusion. i now understand why we were getting our worms muddled :P ill edit it to stop any confusion Quote
tas_ae71 Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 to who ever edited my post, yes i know my spelling is not the best at times i do try and may even download fire fox with spell check on it some day. but i do not use sms speak or shortened versions of english. i don't use ghetto speak like 'ulleh'. yeah that makes more sence Andrew Quote
