ancullen Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I've just come from Boost, and I noticed the E.O.I. post offering the AE92 for sale. You commented that a 4A-FE would never make the power of a 4A-GE. According to Bill Sherwood, who is generally recognised as one of the most knowledgable people around when it comes to the 4A-GE, he thinks that a 4A-FE can make MORE power. And he's building one to prove it. He's got a mate that's already built one (which is why Bill building one), and it's meant to make 240hp whilst only revving the engine to 9,500rpm. I realise that the Formula Atlantic's made about 240hp as well, but this was at 11,000-12,000rpm, so 9,500rpm is a far more useable rev limit. I think the reason this power is meant to be achieveable at lower rpm is the torquier head design of the F-head.
wasfishing Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 (edited) ok the supercharger belt slips something cronic. Do u hav a owners manual on how to teansion it adam? Edited November 28, 2006 by wasfishing
ancullen Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Pfft, owner's manual. What's that? :y: I haven't yet bought any manuals on my engine, or shell for that matter. However, as the supercharger pulley acts off the crank pulley, which also works on the water pump and idler pulleys, then if you move the idler pulley, it will tension (or slacken) the belt.
Ella Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 very right adam... to get me out of the spot I'm in (to get my vl boosted i mean :y:) i need about 600 bucks, i got offered 750 today by athe guy at work with the 20V seca but id rather offer it to you guys first, id be a lot further behind if it wasnt or the members here and their helpful advice, if anyone here has enough and would consider parting with the dollars (or even close offers) nows the time to let me know... Id include everything needed to run the thing and even the whole ae82 it came out of if one desired it (id want a touch more though if i wrecked this car i could get 500 just for the bigger than standard brakes) thanks all i hate the idea of parting with Rolly but well i just can't see myself doing anything with it any time soon, and an engine as great as that one doesnt deserve to be left to gather dust at Gunna motorsports HQ...
ancullen Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 $600 - that's a bit better than what I was expecting. Do you have any specs on it, eg. cams, head, pistons, compression ratio etc? If it's half what I've imagined it to be (and I've got a vivid imagination), then I could get $600 together very rapidly (eg. just got to go to a currency converter).
Ella Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 Standard everything adam, the thing that makes it worth more tho adam is the engine's very low Ks because of it having been a crate motor for so long icant say for ure an exact amount but the motor judgung by when it went into the car and the ks on the speedo scince then, the engine has at most 30,000 ks on it... the upgrades it has consist of: a Set of TRD mild duration and lift cams, just nasty enough to get a real increase in powerbut mild enough that you can still run a std ECU (barely, great gains could be had by decent tuning), and a set of exctractors for better sound and power, they are a 4 into one type...
ancullen Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Standard??? I heard this thing would eat 5.7L V8's, so I assumed it was pretty wild. And it was the driver of the 5.7 that told me he got flogged. Any idea of what the specs are on the cams? And I take it that it's a standard AE82-spec 4A-GE - that is, the one with the blue or blue and black writing on the cam cover?
wasfishing Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 i think the boost is slowly returnin Dunno but it feels a lil better more boosty but still slow i dunno what do u's recon?
ancullen Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I'd have to see it to make further guesses. It's a bit hard to try and work out what's wrong when it's just being described to you rather than seeing first hand.
ancullen Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Yeah, that'd be cool. I don't know how much help I'd be, but we might get lucky. And I don't mean the cruising for chicks on Mitchell St kind of get lucky, in case that's what you were thinking.
wasfishing Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Dam it, that would have been super. Does ur ze run good so u could compare to mine coz i think most the boost is bak, still shutters a lil under lots of load
ancullen Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 (edited) Yep, mine runs SWEET now. :y: Perhaps on Sunday you could pick me up from my place in Palmerston and we could head out to my secret storage facility in Girraween. Or if you already live out that way, I could meet you at the SSF (secret storage facility). We could test the cars against one another to test engine response (eg. feel what it's meant to feel like against what yours feel like), or we could just race them. :y: Edited December 1, 2006 by ancullen
wasfishing Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Yea adam sounds good seeing that i live in HS if u could pm me the address to the SSF and a time and ill meet u out there.
