Pure-SX Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 also I won't be competing I just polished my car lol and I don't have a full set of stockies P.S not sure about the offset of the stockies anyways cuz if i remember my car is running spacers not sure been awhile since i changed them anyways lol
ancullen Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 How much would you want for the KE55?? Y not go water to air intercooler can be hidden is smaller n better. water absorbs 3 times as much heat. Um adam how much for a head i can just bolt onto my aw11 4age (my wreck i bought), will a aw11 clutch suit rwd setup or not? Maybe a couple of hundred. There's only a bit of slight surface rust in two-three very small areas. I don't know, I'm still trying to decide what to do when it comes to racecars. I'm beginning to think that the AE71 may not be as good an option as I first thought, but I'm also considering putting the 4A-GZE in the Starlet. If I go with the AE71 or Starlet option, I'll be left with a good KE55 shell (plus two shit ones). I'll have a think about it and get back to you. How soon are you thinking about seriously starting this project? P.S yo Adam/Ancullen(I think thats ur name???) lol you mind if I tag along havn't been to a Motorkhana and havn't been to hughes since forever lol, Shane you better come ur mr2 aint got nothing on the rolla  My name is Adam, sorry I forgot to introduce myself. :D You should definitely come along to this motorkhana, as they're tonnes of fun. I might give you a run in the Starlet, but only once I've done my serious run, as I'm dead keen at having a shot at the title, and I'll need to be serious to beat the Lotus and Alex in the Gemini. Well I got my quote from Hi-Tech for the rebuild they are looking at $5500, really annoys me considering I asked for a quote for them to assemble the engine for me, what I said was how much to get the engine rebuilt with the gze pistons that was all lol. What I am considering is getting a gze bottom end, a mate of mine is using a 7 rib gze block(ae92 isn't it). What I want to do is put my silvertop head onto the gze block and be done with it. I can't see that costing any more then a few grand even with a workshop doing the work? Any ideas? P.S Shane I may have room in the rolla if ur interested f@$k the rebuild off. Buy a 4A-GZE from an importer - preferably a late model AE92 or AE101 version as they've got 8.9:1 compression and the pistons have oil squirters underneath. All 4A-GZE's have the 7-rib bottom end, and I think only the AE86 and AE82 had the 3-rib 4A-GE block. Otherwise all 4A-GE's and 4A-GZE's share the same block - just with different heads, cams, pistons, cranks, and conrods. Bolt the silvertop head onto the GZE block, get a custom plenum chamber made up to go around those quad throttle bodies, buy a turbo exhaust manifold, buy an intercooler and piping, and you'll need an aftermarket ECU to run it all. I'm pretty certain the 4A-GZE ECU can't run it due to quad throttle bodies, and also the fact that a 4A-GZE has the throttle body before the supercharger, not after. My price estimate would be as follows: 4A-GZE - $1,500 Turbo - $1,500 (brand new GT28RS) Intercooler - $400 ECU - $1,500 Intercooler piping - $300 Exhaust system - $1,000 Freight costs - $500 Labour - $3,300 (includes custom intake plenum) This comes to $10,000. I have probably overestimated the labour costs, but it brings the total to $10,000. I'm not sure on freight costs, I think it might be higher, as an engine would probably cost about $500 on it's own to be sent up here. Realistically for the $10,000 price tag you might also be able to get some extra stuff, like a metal head gasket (make sure you get one to suit the 20v, not a 16v) and maybe some other stuff, but I'm not sure. Remember my estimate is more of a guess that I pulled out of my bum. But I think you'd get it done for $10,000, and I reckon you could be making a fairly easy 160kW at the front wheels. Duy's old blue Sprinter which is now owned by someone else and has a new GT28 turbo is making 160rwkw, and I think it's running about 16-18psi. It might be less boost than that, I can't remember.
ancullen Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I'm waiting on confirmation to be certain, but it looks like the motorkhana is on Saturday the 24th, not Sunday the 25th. That means I can't make it, as I've got to work from 1pm till 10pm. Luckily it's my last weekend at work, as I got a new job today at the uni. I'll be staying at Coles part time on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights though. The Fridays is a bit of a bummer as still won't be able to make it to the drags, but my roster will probably change within a couple of months which will hopefully free up Fridays as well. I hope some of you guys head down to the motorkhana anyway and defend our club honor against any Gemini's that turn up.
Pure-SX Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 yeah i know the dude who owns the blue 86 his name is daniel hes running a GT2871 with about 18psi I think it was he was getting 160rwkw on the old turbo set up. The car is currently for sale on carsales for around 16g's.
ancullen Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 The car is for sale again??? But it's so awesome!!! Why would anyone want to get rid of it? I work at Coles Palmerston as the nightfill manager. I will remain nightfill manager part-time until a replacement can be found, which is good, because it'll mean I can bring home and extra $200-250 per week after tax. But I'll be rooted, as I'll be working 8-4.30 at the uni, then 5pm-1am at Coles. I'm hoping they find a replacement manager pretty quickly.
Pure-SX Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Well my lunch time trip to JSM was a huge success, I found Jason to be alot more helpful, not puting Dave down hes still a good bloke. So now what i need to do is get my ecu part number and draw a pin diagram of the plug etc. I hate being 6 foot 3 getting to my ecu my be fun...... :D Reason I asked was my girlfriend works nightfill at caz and so does my mum..... lol
Pure-SX Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 he said hes getting rid of the 86 cuz he wants something with air con and has a little more comfortable suspension lol guess its just time to move on, shane u said u want a drift project here it is lol :D
Pure-SX Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 (edited) Should I just buy a 4agze engine and use the bottom end or should I buy brand new gze pistons/rings and get engine rebuilt which option would be cheaper? Also do the 20V come with oil squirters? Would my motor run ok with the gze pistons with no oil squirters? Edited March 21, 2007 by Pure-SX
Killswitch Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Why not sell your entire 20v engine package, and stick with the 16v 4AGZE, then just turbo that? Or do you really want a 20v turbo over a 16v turbo? If so, why? Go 3SGTE conversion! :D
wasfishing Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Well adam engine arrived today so gotta get it outta the car and spit before i need a shell, but first i gotta open da boot. hopefully make money from sellin parts to fund the rebuild or mayeb just head replacment, gettin ahead of myself engine has to come out first!
Killswitch Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 And it'll be mcf@$ked! Or else I'll cry lol. yeah I couldn't open the boot either? the opening latch has no tension... does your key fit?
Pure-SX Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 I am using my 20V head end of discussion lol
wasfishing Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Nar just yanked the cable for engine bay. Well we will see still dunno how to get the mcfarkin engien out with all the wires n spit.
ancullen Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 It'd be way, way cheaper to use a second-hand 4A-GZE rather than buying new bits - provided nothing goes wrong with any of the second-hand bits. But these are tough motors, and you've got a pretty good chance of it being all good.
