Jono Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 you don't have to shorten the t series diff do you? how strong are they? Quote
beerhead Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 You'll probably find they've used a T housing from the narrower early Celica's. From rumours I've heard you need to shave the axels at the spline end to make it bolt together with an LSD carrier, unless its a CUSCO. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Terrific car. How have you found the 4.77 final drive ratio? I'm considering that ratio for my own car. I really like your heat shield over the exhaust. Must do something similar for mine. Can you get your brother to post his car too? I know brothers are competitive but this takes the cake. :D Quote
toyocharged Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 I actually havent installed the 4.77 yet I'm running a 4.11 which is way to tall for Mallala, only using 3rd gear, my brother runs a 4.55 and thats seems alright. Hopefully a 4.77 will be perfect, we don't use 5th but if we ever go to E.C or P.I 5th will be used. heres a few pics of the bros car, hes not really into the interwebs :D Specs on his car OWNER/DRIVER: Craig Sharp CREW: Clint Sharp, Rob Sharp, John Sharp SPONSORS: Cooper Auto Electrics Co & JAS HIGHLIGHTS: Finishing the car E-MAIL: [email protected] CAR: Toyota Corolla # 77 WEIGHT: 800kgs ENGINE: 4AGE 20 Valve Silver Top OUTPUT: 165hp at the flywheel FUEL TANK: Standard with a surge tank BRAKES: Front - Nissan Rotors with JFZ 4 spot calipers Rear - Mazda Rotors with Mazda 1 spot calipers TYRES: 3J Improved Production Car Yokohama control tyre TRANSMISSION: Toyota T50 5 speed DIFFERENTIAL: Toyota K series with 4.55:1 TRD LSD WHEELS: Performance Globe 13 x 5.5-inch SUSPENSION: Custom struts, reset leaf, Koni shocks, adjustable panhard rod Link to Craigs car http://www.iprasa.mx.com.au/cars/77%20craig_sharp.htm Link to Clints (Nephews) car http://www.iprasa.mx.com.au/cars/15%20c_sharp.htm Link to Robs ( Nephews) car http://www.iprasa.mx.com.au/cars/51%20r_sharp.htm Quote
toyocharged Posted September 21, 2007 Author Report Posted September 21, 2007 heres some pics of the JFZ brake conversion, we had to make new brackets up because the JFZ have a 5.25 inch bolt pattern, using Gazelle rotors with a adapter plate for correct offset, we made the bracket first from tin and when the final offset etc was correct. We got new 6mm mild steel laser cut to suit, we also added a 7mm spacer on the rear of the spacer for the correct offset and drilled and tapped it to suit a 10mm dia high tensile bolt. We got the pedal sussed and they feel good. Next weekend will be the test, fitted the new Konis they are Fiat 124 and need a bigger diameter hole drilled 10mm and shaved the bottom bush to suit the shock mount. Cheers John Quote
toyocharged Posted October 2, 2007 Author Report Posted October 2, 2007 Track day with small video, shock horror the brake conversion worked -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brakes worked fantastic, dropped 2 secs a lap straight away down from a 29 to a flat 27, didnt fade, plenty of bite, car needs still more rear brake. Might try a different bias adjuster had mine full rear and still needs more. The new rear Konis have got rid of the nervousness from the rear Thought I was flying round, nephew took it for a spin and did a 1.25 flat then a mid 24, he rekons a high 22 is very acheivable He was braking probably 100 metres latter than me everywhere and on the power a lot earlier everywhere. Lap record for Mallala is a 1.25.1 for class D U1600, so the car has plenty of potential. I just need to learn to drive faster . Car goes to paint on Thursday, then its stickered up and ready for action Courtesy www.mallala.com Class Improved Production D U1600 Rob Hankinson (DATSUN 510) 01:25.1 Heres a vid of it from the northern to turn 1, mate's chasing me in his RX4 IP car with 13 Bp in it, you can hear the quad ITB's down the start/finish straight then his rotor noise takes over. He had me on the straights but I got out the corners that much quicker I always gapped him by a couple, he' much later on the brakes than me, I still not fully confident with them yet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_GDqNw-JMs Quote
