Redwarf Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Well.... wasn't that just a fat day! Didn't start off too good, snapping a stub axle of the trailer after I loaded it on Saturday night. As a southern associate of mine would say, I was paid a visit by Barstards Inc. Quick phone call to the legendary Wayno: "Course you can borrow my trailer!" and an hour later, we're back in business. The day dawned bright, Teddy and Xany fronted at the Chateau de Dwarf at Oh My God o'clock, and were off to Parklands, stopping at Yatala for the manditory Rally Breakfast. Guys, dead set, the next one of these they have, I want to see everyone who has a CAMS license out there, because it was the most fun I've had sitting down for ages. tracks were good, if a little muddy, and everyone was having a hoot. Fook looked to be enjoying himself, I didn't get to see much of him, due to him being the car in front of me for most of the day. I think he spent most of the day battling with Peter S in the Escort. Speaking of Escorts, there were a couple of really nice ones there, and they had STICK! I love the sound of Webers. I had a good day, Blue car has heaps of stick, handled reasonably, and stopped competently. I ended up getting hosed by a geriatric in a Honda Civic. Okay, I suppose Henry has been doing this for literally as long as I've been alive, and he is a damn good pedaller, in a really nice bit of kit. All credit to him as he also came 3rd outright as well. Came home, hosed it down, we're good to go for another day! ;) Cheers R Quote
demuire Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) Well, today was a fun day... Overall, I didn't do very well at all I don't think... In fact I'd almost say I absolutely sucked, but hey I had fun... I had my best runs in the morning, and then all my afternoon runs were really very crappy - not quite sure why. I let the air in my tyres down on my 3rd/4th run (down to 30/32) and I think that was a mistake because after that the car was just either understeering or constantly sideways, and a lot harder to control. Was a lot more predictable and manageable with higher tyre pressures (although I don't know if I had more/less grip cause the car was just entirely different to drive with lower pressure, and I was constantly fighting it). Also lost my passenger side mirror on that run when I understeered through the chicane, and took out a cone on the next, and possibly made me a lot more cautious for the rest of the day... My last run was heaps of fun, and I managed to flick the car into just about every corner which meant LOTS of sideways action - but as we all know - sideways is generally slower, and in my case sideways was definately SLOW. But anyways, it was fun... Next time I'll keep the higher pressures and hope I do a bit better! Edited October 3, 2004 by demuire Quote
Redwarf Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Caution? Nahhhhh!!!!! Its always a good day when you learn something.... Sorry if I gave you a bum steer on the tyres., but honestly, that usually worked for me.... ;) Quote
demuire Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Heh, it wasn't just you, don't worry ;) I spoke to Peter S and Craig N as well and everyone was running lower pressures (26-32 generally) which made my 32-36 seem a bit high. Logically lower pressures should be better, maybe it's just harder to drive and I'm not quite that good yet? Dunno. Or maybe the track is hard enough to run higher pressures? Except for the muddy bits, most of the track was very hard, being rock and gravel, and I think the high pressure would have been alright. In the mud however... But yeah it was AMAZING how much of a difference it made dropping the pressure down to 29-32, the car was just so hard to drive after that... Quote
Teddy Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 oh dam that was a good day ! Rob = congrad on getting a good feel for the car, you looked like you had a hoot, and every 1 loved chearing you on ! Well done, again for another great show ! Fook = oh hell yeah, drift damage ;) ! that car is so cool ! Landcruser Owner : *no comment*....*smile, very big smile* Quote
demuire Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Monster truck is cool. Monster truck is SO COOL. How can a Landcruiser come out on a day like today, to a khanacross track, and then proceed to win outright 1st and 2nd place? It's just WRONG, SO WRONG... YET SO RIGHT!!! ;) Quote
Redwarf Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 It's funny really, because I always run higher in the front on dirt than in the back. I started at 32 all round and ended up at 32/28, which seemed to work okay...... Teddy: Gotta love the monster truck ;) Quote
demuire Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Maybe I should have tried that (higher pressures in front)? I've just found that on tarmac my car tends to understeer a lot more with higher pressures in the front, but it may be different on the dirt... Might try that next time maybe... Quote

Teddy: Gotta love the monster truck ;) i still can't get over that thing ;) - is it just me, or are family land-cruzers not ment to waist Rex's ! ahhh an exelent day, ill will not be missing the next 1 - and i may even be out there next time ! ;) Quote
wyldephyre Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Guys, dead set, the next one of these they have, I want to see everyone who has a CAMS license out there.... Ooh, does that include me? It should be interesting, see as I still can't drive... Sounds like a good day, but I had another shoot on, so I had to miss out. Quote
Xany Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 hehehe....awesome is just the half of it..... just seeing rob and fook go at it was awesome..... seeing that landy launch was absolutely amazing...... but then you get the odd fella....say at BP yatla.....where i'd only just turned the car off after parking it and.....this guy comes up to me....and asks the dreded question...... "Is that thing a rotary"........i think i just about choked him.... my answer to his question was.....nah mate.....1.5L with a big cam. anyway apart from that..... AN AWESOME DAY.....i might just go and get my cams licence now...... ;) Quote
mumblezzz Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 *mutters something about excessivly low car* ahh Fark it, once i sort this wiring rats nest out you can bet i'll be out there. I never liked my exhaust anyway. I'd rather be out driving than fixing POS13's. Quote
