New voltage dip record today. 182 volts! Powers been under 190 volts for 13 minutes so far today. And under 210v for the rest of the time :'(

Means the power grid around here is ratshit and can't handle all the A/Cs running in my suburb today. Anything under 190 volts and my UPS switches off mains and onto battery.

Haha nah Rollaclubs hosted on a server in a datacenter, something along these lines: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm.../Datacenter.jpg ...except its all Dell gear not IBM ...and probably a whole lot messier.

 

I have considered hosting it at home with a 4Mbps SHDSL link but I think its cheaper in the long run to host it in a datacenter... At least until we get FTTH or MAYBE with FTTN but I can't see that happening anytime soon.

 

New server is currently running off that UPS though.

The leased shared server runs dual Gallatin Xeons, 3.06Ghz, 533mhz FSB, 2Gb RAM, RAID1 dual 146Gb U320 SCSI drives

 

The new server that I own runs a Quad core Xeon 2.33Ghz, 1333mhz FSB, 5Gb RAM, RAID1 dual 450Gb (500Gb) SATA-II 3Gbps enterprise class Seagate drives

 

The speed difference is... staggering to say the least! The only thing the current server beats me on is disk speed. SATA does 300Mbytes/sec (3.0Gbits/sec less overhead) but U320 does 320Mbytes/sec (2.56Gbits/sec). Not a huge difference but the SCSI disks win on latency.

 

 

Well my UPS finally ran low on battery so now I'm on my laptop until the network gears UPS runs out in about an hour or so.

Erm...webhosting. But really you could put anything that runs on linux on them... like game servers etc.
